Forklift Operator (Structural Steel Division)

Position Summary

Hogan & Associates Construction is seeking an experienced Forklift Operator to support structural steel operations. This position will be in Saratoga Springs for the foreseeable future. Travel to other projects in required as needed. This position is responsible for safely operating multiple types of forklifts and material-handling equipment while assisting with structural steel jobsite operations. The ideal candidate is an experienced and certified equipment operator. Must have experience with loading and unloading structural steel deliveries and organizing and maintaining steel inventory and staging areas. Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel to projects along the Wasatch front. Employment offers are contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment drug test, physical abilities test and background check.

Essential Responsibilities

Forklift Operations

  • Safely operate multiple types of forklifts and material-handling equipment.
  • Load, unload, move, and stage structural steel materials.
  • Transport materials throughout the project site while maintaining safe work practices.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance concerns.
  • Maintain equipment in a clean and professional condition.
  • Assist with rigging and material placement activities as needed.

Structural Steel Support

  • Assist with loading and unloading structural steel deliveries.
  • Organize and maintain steel inventory and staging areas.
  • Support steel fabrication and field crews as needed.
  • Assist with banding, sorting, and preparing materials for installation.
  • Operate basic shop equipment and tools.
  • Assist with basic welding tasks when qualified.
  • Support truck loading and material logistics.
  • Perform general labor duties and maintain a clean work area.
  • Help ensure materials are available and organized to support production and installation activities.
Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 3 years of forklift operating experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to safely operate multiple types of forklifts.
  • Strong understanding of construction site safety practices.
  • Ability to pass our physical abilities test as outlined below.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.

Preferred

  • Structural steel, fabrication shop, or heavy construction experience.
  • Experience loading and handling oversized steel materials.
  • Basic welding experience.
  • Welding certifications.
  • Experience with rigging and signaling practices.

Work Hours:

8 hours per day, minimum of 40 hours per week and overtime as necessary or until work is completed. Shifts (day, swing and night) and work assignments may vary as deemed necessary by management.

Related Safety Responsibilities:

Must become familiar and compliant with Hogan's safety program and OSHA regulations. Must maintain fitness level sufficient to handle his/her required workload. Understands, is familiar with, and follows equipment safety requirements. Is always vigilant and aware of his/her own safety as well as the safety of those around him/her.

Employees will be required to complete a physical abilities evaluation prior to being hired which includes the following requirements: Lift 100 lbs. vertical from floor to waist, lift 50 lbs. from floor to head level, horizontally carry 50 lbs. a distance of 50 feet, horizontally transfer 150 lbs. of force on a sled a distance of 50 feet, minimum of 75 lb. requirement of grip strength in both hands, ascend and descend 3 rungs of a ladder, forward bend to reach a point 3 inches from the floor, squat to reach a point 3 inches from the floor, and stand on one leg while placing arms across chest with hands touching shoulders and do not let legs touch each other for a 20 second hold.
