As the Sustainability Forester at Drax, you will be responsible for leading local sustainability compliance at Drax Biomass pellet plants. In this role, you will collaborate with industry and conservation partners to help Drax achieve its goal of becoming a world leader in sustainable biomass sourcing. You will also support the Sustainability Manager in overseeing in-woods sustainability practices and ensuring compliance with chain-of-custody procedures, fibre sourcing standards, and SBP certifications.

Your Day-to-Day as a Sustainability Forester. Youโ€™ll:
  • Actively participates in internal and external third-party audits.
  • Leads in-woods field inspections and source desk reviews, and reviews Rapid Risk Assessments (RRAs) to ensure that feedstock production adheres to relevant Best Management Practices (BMPs), certification requirements, and company policies.
  • Engages with the forest industry, including SFI Implementation Committees, and collaborates with local conservation partners.
  • Facilitates the review of in-woods and residual supplier questionnaires to ensure sustainability expectations are aligned between Drax and its feedstock suppliers.
  • Serves as the sustainability point of contact for the Drax fibre procurement team.
  • Supports activities related to the certification program to ensure all certificates remain in good standing.
  • Assists the Sustainability Manager in providing critical information for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and annual reporting.


What youโ€™ll bring: 
To excel in this vital role, youโ€™ll need:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Forestry or a related field in Natural Resources is required. 
  • Applied knowledge of forest management, forest sourcing, or natural resource management is essential; experience with forest certification is ideal. 
  • Strong analytical skills, including proficiency in Excel, are required. Experience with 3Log and/or other data management systems is preferred. Familiarity with ArcGIS is also preferred. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as collaborative abilities, are necessary.
