Position Summary:
The Therapist - Forensic Clinical Coordinator provides specialized forensic mental health services to justice-involved individuals and their families. Conducts forensic assessments, develops and implements individualized treatment plans, and provides evidence-based therapeutic interventions designed to reduce recidivism, improve mental health functioning, and support successful community reintegration. Collaborates with courts, probation and parole officers, correctional facilities, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and community partners to ensure continuity of care and compliance with legal requirements. Provides clinical consultation, educational services, and therapeutic support in accordance with professional qualifications, ethical standards, and applicable laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Consumer Care / Clinical Services
Completes forensic intakes, diagnostic assessments, biopsychosocial evaluations, and risk assessments for justice-involved individuals.
Develops, implements, monitors, and updates individualized treatment plans that address mental health conditions, criminogenic factors, community safety concerns, and rehabilitation goals.
Provides crisis intervention, individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, psychoeducation, and other clinically indicated services within the scope of licensure and credentials.
Conducts violence risk assessments, behavioral assessments, and forensic evaluations as qualified.
Assesses consumer functioning, treatment needs, risk factors, strengths, and barriers to successful community integration.
Provides services in the most appropriate setting, including residential treatment facilities, correctional facilities, detention centers, courts, hospitals, and community settings.
Collaborates with probation and parole officers, attorneys, judges, law enforcement personnel, correctional staff, child welfare agencies, and other stakeholders involved in the consumer's care and supervision.
Provides educational and support services to consumers and families related to mental health, coping skills, behavioral management, relapse prevention, and successful community reintegration.
Encourages active participation by consumers and families, when appropriate, in treatment planning and intervention.
Develops transition and discharge plans that promote successful movement to less restrictive levels of care and reduce risk of recidivism.
Maintains or exceeds direct-service productivity standards established by agency policy.
Seeks supervisory consultation for high-risk cases and documents all consultations in accordance with agency policy.
Interdisciplinary Team Participation
Attends regularly scheduled clinical, forensic, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
Staffs new and ongoing cases with supervisors, psychiatrists, psychologists, and other treatment team members.
Participates in peer reviews, case consultations, treatment planning meetings, and risk management discussions.
Provides consultation regarding forensic treatment needs, behavioral health concerns, risk factors, and rehabilitation planning.
Collaborates with internal and external partners to promote coordinated service delivery and positive consumer outcomes.
Documentation and Court-Related Responsibilities
Maintains timely, accurate, and complete documentation of all clinical services, assessments, treatment planning activities, transfers, discharges, incidents, and consultations.
Prepares forensic reports, treatment summaries, progress reports, risk assessments, court updates, and other clinical documentation requested by courts, attorneys, probation officers, correctional agencies, and community partners.
Obtains and maintains appropriate releases of information and confidentiality protections in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
Ensures all required signatures and authorizations are secured when applicable.
Completes agency, state, federal, and program-specific documentation requirements.
Documents services contemporaneously whenever possible and in accordance with agency policy and professional standards.
Ensures diagnostic impressions and treatment recommendations are reviewed and approved as required by applicable regulations and agency policy.
May develop behavioral management plans and collect behavioral data as clinically indicated.
May provide court testimony, treatment updates, and professional consultation as qualified and authorized.
Supervision and Authority
Reports directly to an assigned Clinical Supervisor, Forensic Program Supervisor, or designee.
Exercises professional judgment, discretion, and initiative in carrying out the responsibilities of the position.
Maintains compliance with applicable ethical standards, licensing requirements, agency policies, and legal mandates governing forensic mental health services.
Responsible for exercising professional abilities in a competent, objective, ethical, and legally defensible manner while balancing consumer treatment needs and public safety considerations.
