What is a forensic interview?

A Forensic Interview job involves conducting structured conversations with individuals, often children or vulnerable adults, who may have experienced abuse, neglect, or witnessed a crime. The goal is to gather accurate and reliable information in a neutral and non-leading manner to assist in legal or investigative proceedings. Forensic interviewers typically work for law enforcement agencies, child advocacy centers, or social service organizations. They receive specialized training in interviewing techniques, psychology, and trauma-informed practices to ensure interviews are conducted ethically and effectively.

What does a forensic interviewer do?

A Forensic Interviewer's day typically involves preparing for and conducting interviews with children or vulnerable adults in a sensitive and legally compliant manner, documenting findings, and collaborating closely with law enforcement, child protective services, and medical professionals. They also participate in case reviews, write detailed interview reports, and may occasionally testify in court regarding interview procedures and findings. The role often requires maintaining up-to-date knowledge of best practices through ongoing training. This collaborative and multidisciplinary environment provides the opportunity to make a significant impact in both investigative outcomes and client support.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a forensic interviewer?

To thrive as a Forensic Interviewer, you need expertise in psychology, criminal justice, and specialized interviewing techniques, often supported by a relevant degree or certification in forensic interviewing or child advocacy. Familiarity with digital recording equipment, case management systems, and protocols such as the National Children’s Advocacy Center (NCAC) model is essential. Outstanding interpersonal skills, active listening, and the ability to build trust and rapport are crucial soft skills in this role. These skills are vital to conducting effective, legally sound interviews while supporting the emotional well-being of vulnerable individuals involved in investigations.

Are forensic interviewers in demand?

Employment opportunities are often available in law enforcement agencies, child advocacy centers, and social services, with a focus on strong communication skills and relevant certifications. The role typically requires a background in criminal justice, psychology, or social work, and demand is expected to remain steady as these issues continue to be prioritized.

How do you become a forensic interviewer?

To become a forensic interviewer, individuals typically need a background in social work, psychology, or criminal justice, along with specialized training in interviewing techniques and child development. Certification from organizations like the National Children's Advocacy Center or the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children is often required or preferred. Engagement Manager

Cypfer

Miami, FL • Remote

Full-time

Job description

About Us:

CYPFER is a true first-responder Cybersecurity organization enabling clients to return to business rapidly, the right way, following a cyber-attack. We are a global market leader in ransomware post-breach remediation and cyber-attack first response. We deliver results that far surpass market statistics for cyber-extortion and ransomware events. Our team of cybersecurity professionals works with prominent global insurance carriers, leading law firms, and Fortune 1000 businesses.

The Engagement Manager oversees complex client engagements related to cybersecurity, digital forensics, incident response, and post-breach remediation. This leadership role focuses on managing the entire client lifecycle, from initial engagement and strategy development to project delivery and ongoing relationship management. The engagement manager works closely with senior executives and legal teams to translate complex technical risks into actionable business strategies and board-ready insights.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Engagement leadership: Lead and manage the end-to-end client engagement process for high-stakes, complex matters, including cyber investigations, data breaches, and insider threat cases.
  • Client relationship management: Serve as the primary point of contact for high-impact clients, fostering and maintaining strong, long-term relationships with "C-suite" executives, legal counsel, and boards of directors.
  • Strategic advisory: Provide expert guidance on cyber resilience, digital risk identification, risk mitigation strategies, and incident response planning. Help clients navigate complex technical, legal, and regulatory landscapes.
  • Project oversight: Supervise digital forensics and incident response teams, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and with exceptional quality. This includes collaborating with the technical team to create after-action recommendations for proactive or partnership services that the client may engage with post-engagement.
  • Team collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including digital forensics, post-breach restoration and strategic partnership teams to best serve the client’s needs.
  • Business development: Identify opportunities to expand and grow relationships with existing clients as well as introduce new clients to CYPFER. Act as a trusted advisor, demonstrating CYPFER’s capabilities to meet evolving cyber risk needs.
  • Quality assurance: Ensure the technical and legal integrity of investigations and reports.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree desired.
  • Significant experience in client engagement, project management, or a related field within cybersecurity or risk management. Must have the ability to communicate complex technical jargon into easily understood ideas for C-suite clients who may not hold technical roles.
  • Deep expertise in areas such as digital forensics, incident response, cybercrime, and data privacy.
  • Proven ability to manage high-pressure situations, think strategically, and adapt to rapidly changing client needs.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage and influence senior-level stakeholders. Any experience presenting on cybersecurity at industry conferences, client proposal meetings and other client-focused events is highly desired.
  • Strong leadership capabilities and the ability to mentor and guide expert teams.
  • A strong work ethic, high level of integrity, and ability to manage sensitive, confidential information with discretion.

CYPFER is an equal opportunity employer. If you need any accommodations or adjustments throughout the interview process and beyond, please let us know. We celebrate our inclusive work environment and welcome members of all backgrounds and perspectives to apply.

We thank you for your interest in joining the CYPFER team! While we welcome all applicants, only those who are selected for an interview will be contacted.
