Job Profile
JOB SUMMARY: Provides nursing care to individuals who present to the Harris Health System for treatment, evidence collection and injury documentation. Completes and documents physical, social and safety assessments on each patient. Interacts in a professional manner with the patient, family and members of the multidisciplinary team. Participates in education and implementing prevention strategies within the community. Testify in courts of law as an expert witness. Is available to respond to locations within the Harris Health System to care for victims and/or perpetrators of trauma, assault or abuse.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education/Specialized Training/Licensure: Bachelors of Science Degree in nursing. Current State of Texas RN Licensure. Preferred certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner through either the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN) or Texas Office of the Attorney General or within two years of employment.
2 Work Experience: Minimum of 2 years healthcare experience as a Registered Nurse with a background in Emergency/ Trauma, Labor & Delivery, Pediatrics, Intensive Care and/or Forensic Nursing.
4 Equipment Operated: Computer, calculator, fax, copier, camera
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1 . Communication Skills:
Above Average Verbal (Heavy Public Contact)
Exceptional Verbal (e.g., Public Speaking)
Bilingual Skills Required: No
Writing /Composing (Correspondence / Reports-including entry of forensic data and case reports)
2. Other Skills: Able to communicate effectively with law enforcement officials, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and social service agencies, medical examiner professionals.
Analytical, Mathematics, Medical Terms, P.C., Research, Statistical, Word Proc.
3. Work Schedule: Weekends, Holidays, Flexible, Travel, On Call
4. Other Requirements: On-call accountability for Harris Health System department. Current knowledge and experience in forensic nursing and/or participation in SANE/SAFE programs.
