Job Description:
Summary:
The Security Officer is responsible for the safety and security of all facility employees, patients, visitors, physicians, and health system property and equipment. The Officer will maintain public order through visible patrols, response to emergencies, public liaison activities, and documentation of occurrences. This individual will assist outside agencies in mitigating risk and investigating crimes and incidents. The Officer will perform safety checks/assessments/inspections and to correct or take steps to correct any safety or security hazards. Additionally, the Officer will enforce policies and procedures related to security at the location, and directs both foot and vehicular traffic in and around the location, when necessary.
The Officer will supervise and enforce all systems designed to monitor or identify personnel and vehicles entering the location, log activity and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences. The Officer will complete fire drills for areas both internal and external to the facilities and complete extinguisher checks as assigned. In some areas of assignment, the Officer may enter patient information into the computer system, complete and document patient health and welfare checks, and assist with other administrative needs of the area they are supporting.
Requirements:
Associate's degree preferred. Experience security field or law enforcement preferred. Strong verbal and written communications skills. Must be insurable by the hospital insurance carrier. Must be 21 years old per TCA-62-35-106.
Licenses and Certifications:
BLS required or obtained within 6 months of hire.For Tennessee locations: Must possess or obtain within 90 days state certification as a private security officer. Sworn police officers in the state of TN must provide a current copy of the post certification card in lieu of state certification as a private security officer. At any time the officer is no longer a sworn officer, he/she must go through the licensing process within 30 days.Must complete de-escalation training/certification within 60 days of hire. Must complete 16 hours of Armed Security Training per year, including maintaining 80% shooting accuracy and range safety.Must pass Forensics Exam and the system's Armed Security Course within 60 days of hire.International Association of Hospital Safety and Security basic certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire and maintained throughout employment.Valid state motor vehicle operator's license required.For VA: Must possess or obtain license within 6 months of hire date.
