Job description

Davidson Automotive Group is looking for a Shop Foreman/Apprentice Trainer for our Reconditioning department. This position will serve as the primary trainer and technical resource for our apprentices to help them learn the skills and knowledge to succeed. This position will also work alongside the mechanical supervisor to ensure repairs are completed safely and efficiently with the highest quality standards.

Hours: 8:00am-5:30pm Monday through Friday
Pay Range: $70,000-$75,000/year
Responsibilities:
  • Provide hands-on technical training and coaching to apprentice technicians, including proper diagnostic, repair, safety, and documentation procedures.
  • Provides supervision and real-time performance feedback to apprentices.
  • Attends recruiting events on behalf of the apprentice program.
  • Work closely with the Reconditioning Mechanical Supervisor to identify training needs, track progress, and address performance concerns.
  • Review apprentice work and repair orders for quality, accuracy, completeness, and adherence to dealership standards.
  • Road test vehicles as needed to verify repair quality.
  • Assist with diagnosing and repairing mechanical concerns on pre-owned vehicles.
  • Monitor repair progress and communicate delays or concerns to the Reconditioning Mechanical Supervisor.
  • Help ensure repairs are assigned and completed according to technician skill level and training needs.
  • Coordinate with the Mechanical Supervisor to help prevent delays.
  • Assist in maintaining an organized, clean, and safe shop environment.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Requirements:
  • At least 5 years of automotive repair and diagnostic experience.
  • Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and repair skills across a wide range of vehicle systems.
  • Ability to teach and coach technicians with varying levels of experience.
  • Strong understanding of automotive repair processes, shop workflow, and quality control standards.
  • Ability to review repairs for quality, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Commitment to safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Skills:
  • Previous experience mentoring, training, or leading technicians.
  • Manufacturer or ASE certifications.
  • Previous experience working in a dealership, reconditioning, or high-volume service environment.

Physical Requirements:
  • The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
