ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER (Grades 3-5 )
Terms of Employment:  10-month Employee
Reports to: Principal, Lower School
Salary:  Current Odyssey Charter School Teacher Salary Schedule

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and culturally responsive Elementary School Teacher to join our Greek Language School community. The ideal candidate is passionate about language immersion education, committed to supporting a diverse student population, and eager to promote Greek language and culture while delivering high-quality instruction.

This role requires a collaborative educator who can effectively engage students, partner with colleagues and families, and implement research-based instructional practices that support second-language acquisition.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must hold a valid, active Delaware Teaching License and Certificate in required content area in accordance with 14 Del. C. 1531.
  • Successful completion of Praxis II exams.
  • Proficient in English Language, both written and spoken.
  • Experience teaching in Elementary Grades in an immersion or foreign language program preferred
  • 5th Grade teaching experience preferred
  • Experience teaching students with diverse needs
  • A global citizenship and collaborative mindset 


Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Deliver high-quality, developmentally appropriate instruction to elementary students, integrating Greek language and content areas
  • Implement effective language immersion strategies aligned with second-language acquisition best practices
  • Design and deliver differentiated instruction to meet diverse academic and linguistic needs
  • Plan and implement a program of study that reflects curriculum standards, student needs, and immersion goals
  • Prepare lesson plans and maintain documentation of instructional planning

Collaboration & Communication

  • Collaborate with partner teachers and staff to co-plan lessons, including content transfer between languages
  • Build strong relationships with families through clear, consistent communication
  • Participate in team meetings, professional learning, and school-wide initiatives

Classroom Environment & Management

  • Create a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom environment
  • Establish clear expectations for student behavior and foster a positive classroom culture
  • Manage classroom routines and procedures effectively

Assessment & Student Support

  • Assess student progress regularly using a variety of tools and strategies
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and provide reports as required
  • Communicate student progress to families and involve them as partners in learning
  • Identify student learning needs and collaborate with specialists to provide appropriate interventions

Cultural Integration

  • Integrate Greek culture, traditions, and heritage into daily instruction
  • Foster cultural awareness and respect for all students in a diverse school setting

Professional Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional growth, particularly in language immersion and instructional practices
  • Maintain accurate records in compliance with school policies and regulations
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students, materials, and facilities
