Position Overview

Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Novelis Bay Minette team is seeking a Laboratory Tech. The Lab. Technician will ensure the quality of wastewater standards set by process limits by conducting process and product testing. This role will support qualification trials and customer claims activities.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure personal safety and physical and mental well-being, as well as that of colleagues and visitors in their area of expertise; use mandatory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and guide others in its use.
  • Support Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) initiatives such as Gemba walks and chemical inventory audits.
  • Preserve the environment and align with legal environmental requirements established in ISO and other specific standards.
  • Collaborate with the Water Treatment Lead, Operators and other rigors to prioritize daily activities to meet wastewater standards.
  • Perform mechanical and chemical analysis tests on influent, effluent, and in-process liquid.
  • Provide finished product certifications.
  • Analyze in-process wastewater and communicate test result to process areas.
  • Support cross-training initiatives
  • Assist with maintenance of lab instruments by working alongside with lab technologist.
  • Provide testing support on materials from customer claims for root cause investigation purpose and trials, qualifications, process and product developmental projects.
  • Adhere to and support company quality, environmental, health & safety, and certification standards, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, IATF 16949:2016, and ASI Certifications, where applicable.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 to 5 years in manufacturing industry
  • Basic computer and math skills are required.
  • Ability to work as scheduled (including overtime, weekends and holidays) to support our 24/7 operations
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree in STEM /technology / laboratory science
  • 3 to 5 years of chemical, lab, or quality control experience in manufacturing industry
  • Basic knowledge of data analysis software (example. Minitab)
  • ICP, Spectrophotometer, TOC analyzer and Oil & Grease Test (Method 1664) proficiency.

Novelis' newly announced Bay Minette facility will be located 35 miles northeast of Mobile AL and 45 miles west of Pensacola FL and is expected to create approximately 1000 high-paying advanced careers in modern manufacturing. This highly advanced rolling and recycling facility will be the first of its kind. It will primarily serve our customers in the beverage can and automotive markets.
