Job description

 

The Neil Jones Food Company is an industry leader, processing superior quality fresh-packed, vine-ripened California tomatoes and Pacific Northwest fruit. Headquartered in Vancouver, Washington, NJFC has been providing our nation’s discerning foodservice, retail, industrial and institutional customers with the finest quality canned and pouched products for over 50 years. NJFC operates three production facilities: Northwest Packing in Vancouver, WA.; San Benito Foods, in Hollister, CA; and Toma-Tek in Firebaugh, CA.  

We are seeking a Mechanic 2nd Class to be responsible for repairing and maintaining machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment by performing the following duties at our Northwest Packing plant in Vancouver, WA.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Observes mechanical devices in operation and determines root cause of failures and needed repairs based upon observations. 
  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove, replace and or repair defective parts. 
  • Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections. 
  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements. 
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.  

Requirements:

  • 4+ years verifiable related experience and high level of proficiency in 2 or more skills: instrumentation, mechanical, plumbing, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, metal fabrication, boiler repairs and operation, ammonia system maintenance, pump rebuilds, and/or lathe and milling machine proficiency; Associate degree or technical school certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in welding in at least one of the following: TIG, MIG, or SMAW Oxy-Acetylene.
  • Able to read, write, and speak English and keep record of daily repairs and work performed.
  • Able to use a computer for ordering supplies, research, email, and training.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, work extended schedule, and weekends during the fresh pack season, typically July to early November.
