The Packaging Operations Lead is responsible for overseeing day-to-day activities within the packaging department and developing a highly capable and efficient production team. This role supports operational goals focused on productivity, yield optimization, product quality, and equipment performance.

The Packaging Operations Lead is responsible for overseeing day-to-day activities within the packaging department and developing a highly capable and efficient production team. This role supports operational goals focused on productivity, yield optimization, product quality, and equipment performance.


Responsibilities


  • Supervise frontline packaging staff and shift leads by setting clear daily expectations and performance goals
  • Oversee high-speed automated packaging lines to ensure production targets are met safely and efficiently
  • Manage staffing responsibilities including hiring input, performance evaluations, recognition, and corrective action
  • Coordinate and support line changeovers while minimizing downtime, waste, and product loss
  • Develop and maintain operational procedures (SOPs) and work instructions
  • Plan staffing schedules, workload distribution, and task assignment
  • Identify training needs and ensure employees meet certification requirements
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices at all times
  • Track and improve key performance indicators (KPIs) such as OEE, downtime, throughput, labor efficiency, yield, defects, and waste reduction
  • Remain composed under pressure and communicate effectively with management during operational challenges
  • Drive employee engagement and motivate teams toward continuous improvement
  • Support and contribute to process improvement initiatives
  • Identify operational trends and proactively address potential issues
  • Ensure compliance with GMP standards and industry best practices



Qualifications


  • Associate degree required; Bachelorโ€™s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory role within a manufacturing or production environment
  • Strong understanding of packaging machinery and automated production systems
  • Prior experience in food manufacturing, ideally within dairy or similar regulated environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety programs and GMP compliance
  • Familiarity with USDA/FDA-regulated production settings
  • Ability to work flexible and non-standard hours as needed
  • Strong communication skills; bilingual Spanish/English skills are an advantage
  • Proficient with computer systems and production tracking tools
