Job description

General Summary: The Nutrition Associate provides for the nutritional needs of the residents of the household to meet their daily needs. Must possess the ability to coordinate, organize, and serve nutritious, appetizing and satisfying meals while observing all sanitary and Federal and State Food Safety guidelines.
Nutrition Associate will provide support, friendship, courtesy, cooperation, and kindness for each of the household members.
Qualifications:
  1. Must be able to read and write and understand the English language.
  2. Able to perform simple arithmetic problems.
  3. Abide by all policies and procedures of the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility.
  4. Must possess a clean criminal background.
  5. Must be able to pass a physical and drug screen.
  6. Must abide by the Dietary department dress code.

Principal Duties of a Nutrition Associate
  1. Prepares and serves hot and cold food in a way that assures that all food items are handled properly to ensure safety.
  2. Properly stores, covers, and refrigerates necessary items. Ensures that foods are cooked to the appropriate temperatures according to the current FDA Food Code.
  3. Communicates with the Nutrition department regarding the menu and food supply needs of their neighborhood.
  4. Organizes all necessary neighborhood nutrition supplies.
  5. Records all required documentation regarding food and food service equipment temperatures and for food usage for the neighborhood.
  6. Follows universal precautions, proper infection control, sanitation, and safety standards of practice in all work and activities.
  7. Follows recipes as needed for texture modified and therapeutic diets and liquid consistencies and observe allergy restrictions.
  8. Honor resident's dietary preferences both personal and religious as much as possible.
  9. Provide special eating utensils for the residents as ordered.
  10. Able to meet time schedules as outlined in the neighborhood.
  11. Responsible to make sure all equipment is cleaned and turned off and locked out if needed when not in use.
  12. Posted menu is on the right day. This is a state guideline and must be closely adhered to.
  13. Sweep the kitchen and dining area as needed.
  14. Will be scheduled for mandatory on call as needed.
  15. Transports food safely to the neighborhood.
  16. Must be able to work in the main kitchen for food production if needed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Position Specific Competencies:
  1. Respect the resident's room as their home.
  2. Participates in educational/in-service programs as required.
  3. Must see their position as an active role in shaping household life. not merely waiting for other's instructions. They should serve residents freely and without
  4. Must have knowledge of proper lifting techniques and be able to lift 75 pounds.
  5. Ability to push/pull wheeled carts and chairs weighing up to 300 pounds.
  6. Observe and report the need for repairs to equipment, furniture, building and fixtures immediately upon discovery.
