Buyer
Type: 4-6 month Contract | Location: Onsite in Livermore, CA | Hours: M-F 7am-3:30pm | Compensation: $40-$50/hr
Overview
This role is responsible for sourcing and purchasing raw materials, packaging components, and miscellaneous equipment, parts, and supplies on behalf of a growing manufacturing organization. The Buyer will work with a wide range of vendors and suppliers, from small local businesses to large multinational corporations, and will collaborate across all levels of the organization. This person works with suppliers to determine which products will be used in production and how much of each item should be purchased, and disseminates information such as BOM changes, specification sheets, packing lists, SDSs, CoAs, and inventory reports to internal departments to support business processes and production.
Job Responsibilities
  • Participate in cross-functional teams, sourcing suppliers, implementing and administering supply agreements for assigned commodities, reducing cost through effective purchasing strategies and negotiation, and ensuring supplier on-time performance
  • Evaluate MRP on a weekly basis, initiate required action, and generate and expedite purchase orders based on quality, quantity, best cost, and delivery date requirements
  • Regularly communicate with key personnel in other departments such as IT, Production Planning, Production, and Inventory Control to ensure manufacturing schedules are met and delays are avoided
  • Work with receiving and QC groups to resolve issues with missing documents, out-of-specification items, or other non-conformances in incoming raw materials and components
  • Monitor manufacturing reports for schedule changes and adjust raw material and packaging component orders accordingly
  • Negotiate with vendors to obtain the best possible terms and pricing while maintaining strong vendor relationships

  • Accuracy, critical thinking, and frequent cross-functional collaboration with internal teams as well as external clients and vendors
  • Core technical competencies in purchasing, scheduling techniques, materials requirements planning (MRP), inventory management, risk management, and supplier relationship management
  • Strong knowledge of ERP systems in a manufacturing environment
  • Self-starter with the ability to execute for high-quality outcomes
  • Working knowledge of cGMP practices and manufacturing process flow

Qualifications
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred, or 3-5 years of experience in procurement and planning required
  • Previous purchasing and planning experience in cosmetic, food, or pharmaceutical industries preferred
  • Experience with ERP software preferred
