How much do fly in gold mine jobs pay per year?

As of May 31, 2026, the average yearly pay for fly in gold mine in the United States is $97,771.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $74,500.00 and $112,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Fly-In Gold Mine Worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fly-In Gold Mine Worker, you generally need experience in mining operations, physical fitness, and often a high school diploma or relevant trade certification. Familiarity with heavy machinery, safety protocols, and systems such as mine management software or equipment monitoring tools is important. Adaptability, teamwork, and strong communication skills help individuals excel in remote and challenging environments. These abilities ensure operational efficiency, uphold safety standards, and support effective collaboration during extended shifts away from home.

What are the typical work schedules and living arrangements for fly-in fly-out (FIFO) gold mine workers?

Fly-in fly-out gold mine workers usually operate on a roster system, such as two weeks on followed by one week off, depending on the company and site location. During work periods, employees live in provided accommodation at the mining site, which typically includes meals, laundry, and recreational facilities. The living environment is often communal, so adaptability and good interpersonal skills are key. Travel to and from the site is arranged by the employer, and time off is spent away from the mine, allowing for a strong work-life balance when off shift.

What are fly-in gold mine jobs?

Fly-in gold mine jobs refer to positions at remote mining sites where workers are transported (flown in) to the mine, usually for a set rotation period, and then flown back out for time off. These jobs can include roles such as miners, heavy equipment operators, geologists, engineers, and support staff. Since these mines are typically located in areas with limited or no road access, workers stay on-site in provided accommodations for the duration of their shift rotation, which often lasts one to several weeks. This type of schedule can offer high wages but requires adaptability to remote living and long work hours.
