How much do fly in fly out jobs pay per year?

As of Sep 7, 2026, the average yearly pay for fly in fly out in Freeport, ME is $164,334.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $164,300.00 and $164,300.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a fly in fly out job?

Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) jobs are positions where employees travel to remote work sites, often in the mining, oil, or construction sectors, for set periods before returning home for time off. Workers are flown to the site and provided with accommodation, meals, and transportation as part of their employment package. FIFO roles can involve long shifts and extended time away from home, but they typically offer higher pay and scheduled breaks. This work arrangement helps employers staff projects in remote or hard-to-reach areas where local labor is scarce.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a fly in fly out worker?

To thrive as a Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) worker, you need practical trade or technical skills relevant to your sector (such as mining, construction, or oil and gas), often backed by industry-recognized certifications or licenses. Familiarity with safety protocols, site-specific machinery, and digital reporting systems is typically required. Strong resilience, adaptability, and teamwork are vital soft skills for coping with remote locations and rostered work schedules. These skills and qualities help ensure safety, productivity, and well-being in demanding and isolated work environments.

What are common challenges faced by fly in fly out workers and how can they be managed?

FIFO workers often face challenges such as extended periods away from family, adjusting to shift work, and adapting to remote living conditions. Managing these challenges typically involves maintaining regular communication with loved ones, establishing healthy routines for sleep and exercise, and taking advantage of on-site support services. Many employers offer resources like counseling, social activities, and wellness programs to help FIFO employees maintain their well-being and build a sense of community while on-site.

Reform Physical Therapy is hiring for a full-time physical therapist at our Topsham, Brunswick, South Portland, and Eliot clinics. Reform Physical Therapy is a privately owned practice that treats solely in a one-on-one setting. As a growing company, Reform is in search of energetic and easygoing therapists that are looking to offer their patients the best quality care in a low-pressure, encouraging, and fun environment. Our ideal candidate will be prideful in providing high-quality care, work well within a team, and represent Reform at infrequent community events.

At Reform, work-life balance is held in high regard. With abundant paid vacation time, major holidays off, and paid sick time, Reform's employees can find a balance that allows them to offer the best care possible to patients while not missing out on their own lives. At Reform, we understand that life happens…which is why we encourage employees to use their earned time and take the breaks from work they need. In addition to the work-life balance, we also encourage actual fun within the workspace. This can manifest itself in many ways, from celebrating employee birthdays, to holiday parties, to practice-wide competitions…we aim to ensure that your time at the office is not ALL for work. Sneaking fun into the work week helps it fly by, in our opinion.

Reform prioritizes a hands-on manual and functional therapy approach to provide patients with the care they need to truly recover, not just mask the symptoms for a short period. Therapists' daily schedules are manageable, and patients are never double booked which allows ample time for documentation and provider communication.

The actual clinics of Reform are bright and open, and do not have the gym or doctor's ‘office' feeling. The clinics are designed to provide sufficient open space for exercising/stretching while also offering private rooms for those that prefer privacy. Therapists typically have their own 'space' within the clinic so that there is no need to move your belongings from area to area.
