What is a fly in fly out (FIFO) remote job?

Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) remote jobs are positions where employees travel to a remote worksite, often in industries like mining, oil and gas, or construction, for a set period of time, and then return home for a scheduled break. Workers are typically flown in by their employer to locations that are difficult to commute to daily. While on site, employees usually stay in employer-provided accommodations and work long shifts before flying back home to rest. This arrangement allows companies to access skilled labor for remote projects and gives workers extended time off between work rotations.

What are some common challenges faced by fly in fly out (FIFO) remote workers, and how can they manage them?

FIFO remote workers often encounter challenges such as extended periods away from home, adapting to structured rosters, and maintaining work-life balance. The remote work environment typically involves long shifts and living in close quarters with colleagues, which can be both rewarding and demanding. To manage these challenges, it's important to establish strong communication with family, practice self-care, and leverage support services provided by employers, such as mental health resources and recreational activities during off-hours.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fly in fly out (FIFO) remote worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) Remote Worker, you generally need relevant trade or professional qualifications (such as in mining, engineering, or construction), physical fitness, and the ability to work long shifts in remote locations. Familiarity with site-specific tools, safety management systems, and certifications like MSHA, OSHA, or site inductions are typically required. Resilience, strong communication, and adaptability are critical soft skills for coping with isolation and collaborating effectively with diverse teams. These competencies ensure safety, productivity, and well-being in challenging, remote work environments.

Job description

Position Overview

Chat and Change Counseling, LLC is actively seeking a dedicated and licensed Mental Health Therapist to join our compassionate and skilled team. This full-time position offers the flexibility of remote work through telehealth, allowing you to support clients from the comfort of their own environments. The ideal candidate will be passionate about helping individuals navigate their trauma recovery journeys, employing evidence-based therapeutic strategies to foster resilience and healing.

About the Organization

Chat and Change Counseling, LLC is a specialized mental health practice committed to providing trauma-informed care to individuals impacted by traumatic experiences. Our mission is to create a safe and supportive space for trauma survivors, focusing on effective treatment protocols for conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex trauma, and dissociative disorders. We pride ourselves on our collaborative approach, working closely with our clients to facilitate their healing process and empower them to regain control over their lives.

Work Environment

This role is entirely remote, allowing for a flexible work schedule that can be adapted to your lifestyle. By utilizing telehealth platforms, our therapists engage with clients in a user-friendly digital format that is conducive to therapeutic discussions while maintaining confidentiality and comfort. As part of our team, you will also participate in virtual meetings, case consultations, and professional development initiatives that enrich your clinical skills and foster a sense of community among team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive trauma-informed mental health assessments, identifying each client's unique trauma history and treatment needs.
  • Design and implement tailored treatment plans that focus on trauma recovery, resilience, and empowerment.
  • Utilize evidence-based therapeutic modalities, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), in individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Support clients through the processing of trauma, the development of coping strategies, and the promotion of overall mental well-being.
  • Collaborate closely with psychiatrists and multidisciplinary team members to ensure integrated care and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Provide immediate crisis intervention when necessary, offering essential support during trauma-related emergencies.
  • Educate clients and their families about trauma responses, coping mechanisms, and available mental health resources.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation in compliance with legal and ethical standards, utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems efficiently.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through workshops, relevant training, and staying informed about the latest research and best practices in trauma therapy.
Patient Population / Client Focus

You will be working primarily with adult clients who have experienced various forms of trauma. These individuals may present with complex mental health issues related to past experiences, including PTSD and dissociative disorders. Your role will involve not just therapeutic intervention but also extensive engagement with clients to foster a trusting therapeutic alliance that encourages open communication and growth.

Qualifications
  • A Master's or Doctoral degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Psychology from an accredited institution.
  • A current and valid license (LCSW, LPCC, or LMFT) to practice in the state of California.
  • A strong foundational knowledge and understanding of trauma-related disorders and effective trauma-informed treatment therapies.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating empathy and a non-judgmental attitude in client interactions.
  • Ability to maintain composure in high-stress situations, supporting clients effectively through challenging moments.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and technology platforms.
Preferred Experience

While the minimum requirement is two years of post-licensure experience, candidates with a proven track record in trauma-focused therapies and interventions will stand out. Experience managing crisis situations and a familiarity with diverse client populations will also enhance your application.

Compensation and Benefits

This position offers a competitive salary ranging from USD 90,000 to 100,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. In addition to financial compensation, we provide a comprehensive benefits package, which includes:

  • A robust healthcare benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • A retirement savings plan featuring employer-matching contributions.
  • Generous paid time off (PTO) policies and holiday pay to help you maintain work-life balance.
  • Professional liability insurance coverage for peace of mind while you work.
  • Ongoing support for continuing education and professional development, encouraging you to advance in your career.
  • A collaborative and supportive workplace culture that values each team member.
