Fly In Fly Out Remote information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) Remote Worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) Remote Worker, you generally need relevant trade or professional qualifications (such as in mining, engineering, or construction), physical fitness, and the ability to work long shifts in remote locations. Familiarity with site-specific tools, safety management systems, and certifications like MSHA, OSHA, or site inductions are typically required. Resilience, strong communication, and adaptability are critical soft skills for coping with isolation and collaborating effectively with diverse teams. These competencies ensure safety, productivity, and well-being in challenging, remote work environments.

What are Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) remote jobs?

Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) remote jobs are positions where employees travel to a remote worksite, often in industries like mining, oil and gas, or construction, for a set period of time, and then return home for a scheduled break. Workers are typically flown in by their employer to locations that are difficult to commute to daily. While on site, employees usually stay in employer-provided accommodations and work long shifts before flying back home to rest. This arrangement allows companies to access skilled labor for remote projects and gives workers extended time off between work rotations.

FIFO remote workers often encounter challenges such as extended periods away from home, adapting to structured rosters, and maintaining work-life balance. The remote work environment typically involves long shifts and living in close quarters with colleagues, which can be both rewarding and demanding. To manage these challenges, it's important to establish strong communication with family, practice self-care, and leverage support services provided by employers, such as mental health resources and recreational activities during off-hours.

Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced Senior Tax Manager to lead complex tax engagements in a fully remote environment. In this role, you’ll be the go-to expert for high-level business, individual, and trust/estate returns. You aren't just a number-cruncher here; you are a key relationship manager and advocate for our clients, helping them navigate intricate tax questions and representing them before tax agencies.
Key Responsibilities
  • High-Level Review: Review (and occasionally prepare) complex tax returns for businesses, individuals, trusts, and estates.
  • Client Advocacy: Act as the primary point of contact for clients and represent them in communications with the IRS and other agencies.
  • Expert Research: Dive deep into complex tax research to provide accurate, high-quality guidance on technical questions.
  • Team Collaboration: Work effectively with a remote team to ensure seamless delivery and a high standard of service.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Credentials: Active CPA license is required.
  • Experience: 7+ years of recent public accounting experience focusing on tax.
  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to review complex business and fiduciary/trust returns. Familiarity with Lacerte Tax software is a major plus.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Ideally, you have experience with equity compensation tax planning (ISOs, NSOs, RSUs, ESPP).
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written skills for high-touch client management.
Compensation/Benefits
  • Retirement: 401(k) plan with a 3%–5% employer contribution.
  • Health: Medical and dental insurance (Firm pays 100% of employee premiums).
  • Wealth Support: H.S.A. contributions ($50 per pay period).
  • Professional Growth: Paid professional renewals and continuing education (CPE).
  • Generous Time Off: 20 days PTO, accrued sick leave, 15 paid holidays, and a bonus 5-day office closure after tax season.

Why This Opportunity is Different
This is a high-level leadership role that respects your time and expertise. We offer a fully remote schedule with a culture that actually rewards the tax season grind with a firm-wide week of paid leave once it's over. You’ll have the autonomy to manage significant client relationships while being supported by a firm that covers your premiums and invests in your long-term professional standing.
