What is a fly in fly out mining?

A Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) mining job is a work arrangement where employees travel to remote mine sites for a set period, usually working long shifts, before flying back home for their scheduled time off. These jobs are common in the mining industry, where operations are located far from major cities. Companies typically provide flights, accommodation, and meals while workers are on-site. FIFO roles can be demanding due to long hours and time away from family, but they often offer competitive salaries and benefits.

What should I expect from the work schedule and accommodation in a fly in fly out mining position?

Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) Mining jobs typically follow rostered schedules such as two weeks on-site followed by one week off, which means you will spend extended periods away from home. During your shift, accommodation is usually provided in purpose-built camps with amenities like meals, laundry facilities, and recreational spaces. While the hours can be long and physically demanding, many find the structured roster allows for substantial time off between rotations. It's important to be prepared for communal living and the remote nature of mining sites, but these arrangements are designed to support workers’ comfort and well-being. The FIFO model also offers unique networking opportunities with industry professionals from across the country.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a fly in fly out mining position?

To thrive in a Fly In Fly Out (FIFO) Mining role, you need a solid understanding of mining operations, safety protocols, and relevant trade or technical qualifications such as a mining engineering degree or certification in heavy machinery operation. Familiarity with mining equipment, safety management systems, and adherence to industry regulations is crucial. Strong teamwork, resilience, and adaptability to remote environments are essential soft skills in this field. These competencies enable safe, efficient operations and help employees manage the unique challenges of extended time away from home.

Job description

Overview
BerryDunn's Management and IT Consulting Group (MITG) is looking for a Management and IT Consulting Intern to join our team for the summer. Our Management and IT Consulting Group has a long history of working collaboratively with clients to provide independent and objective consulting services that address challenges associated with organization, management, and information technology. We help our clients create, grow, and protect value through evaluating their use of information systems, streamlining processes, developing management skills, and planning for future technology acquisitions, infrastructure, and resource needs.
You will be immersed in dynamic, in-person learning and get to connect with other interns and experience the company culture firsthand. This full-time summer internship will be based out of our Portland, ME office.
We have internship openings with our Management & Information Technology group for:

You Will
As an intern with our group, you will work on a variety of engagements within our core practice areas: healthcare, higher education, IT governance, risk and compliance, commercial, and workforce/well being. You will work alongside our team serving our clients, participate in business development activities, perform research and analysis, and contribute to other value-added tasks for the group.
Your summer internship will fly by as you work on relevant, meaningful engagements, directly contribute to ongoing projects, and learn how to be an effective consultant across different types of clients.
All new team members are partnered with an experienced BerryDunn team member as an advisor to help guide you through your internship. The rest of your team will assign work, answer questions, meet regularly with you and provide constructive feedback as you hone your skills toward becoming a full-time consultant.
An internship with MITG will challenge you, build your communication skills, give you exposure to a variety of client engagements, require you to develop solutions to complex problems, enhance your ability to work on a team, and allow you to gain hands-on consulting experience.
We consider our interns as we would our full-time hires and have a long history of hiring interns as full-time staff consultants after they complete the internship program.
