We are currently seeking a Protection & Control Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will contribute to the design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of protection and control systems for substations and electrical infrastructure, working closely with engineering, field, and commissioning teams to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant system performance. The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise, handson experience with relay protection and control equipment, and a collaborative approach to supporting projects from concept through commissioning.

This position also involves travel to various customer and project sites throughout the Maritimes; the primary focus is to perform maintenance and commissioning activities.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain or Commission Power distribution equipment including Power Transformers, Circuit Breakers, HV Switches and Instrument Transformers
  • Perform Short Circuit & Coordination Study or Arc Flash Study. Perform site data collection when required
  • Create or Modify Single Line and Three Line Drawing using AutoCAD
  • Be safety conscious and have the willingness to learn Electrical Lockout/Tag-out procedures and gain Electrical Safety Awareness
  • Read and interpret electrical AC & DC schematics, AC three-line, logic diagrams and SLDs. Inspect, test, operate and troubleshoot AC & DC control and protection wiring schematic
  • Be familiar with industry specific codes and Standards (CEC, IEEE, and NETA)
  • Ability and willingness to travel for out of town for commissioning or maintenance projects
  • May be required to provide emergency services to the company's customers on short notice
  • Required to work in an industrial and outdoor substation environment, services will be performed within Health and Safety standards and regulations
  • Familiarity or willing to gain familiarity with testing different types of high voltage and low voltage equipment
  • Report, record, compute and process electrical test information in accordance with accepted standard practices

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Electrical Engineering Degree or Electrical Engineering Technology
  • 5+ years of experience in the Electrical industry may substitute for education requirements

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 3-5 years' experience hands-on testing with protection & control, or engineering technology
  • Relay testing with Omicron or Doble
  • SCADA, RTU and Communication Systems

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Construction scheduling, planning, and execution
  • Able to read electrical drawings
  • Established electrical utilities practices, procedures and techniques
  • Applicable local and provincial labour codes
  • Organization and time management
  • Willing and able to travel within the Atlantic Region
  • Valid New Brunswick Class 5 Driver's License
  • Security clearance
