About the role

We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to support and advise on complex electrical engineering initiatives at the Kemano Hydroelectric Power Station, one of British Columbia's most critical power assets, with accountability for supporting safe, reliable operation and long-term asset performance as the facility enters a major rebuild phase of its eight generators.

This is a great opportunity for a collaborative and pragmatic engineer to work handson with critical hydroelectric assets and play an influential role a major rebuild project at a worldclass 975 MW power station.

The role is based at the Kemano camp and follows a Tuesday to Friday work schedule. Kemano is located approximately 80 km from Kitimat, with employee transportation to and from site provided by boat at the start and end of each rotation. Transportation is provided from Kitimat only, and this position is not a fly-in-fly-out arrangement.

Reporting to the Superintendent and working in a collaborative community within the Kemano Power Operations Department, you will be:

  • Championing safe work practices by embedding Rio Tinto's Health, Environment, Safety and Community (HSEC) standards into engineering decisions, field activities, and contractor engagements
  • Providing handson engineering field support and technical leadership to maintenance teams to improve the capability, availability, and reliability of the Kemano Power Station
  • Developing and maintaining a deep technical understanding of sitespecific electrical equipment and systems
  • Creating, reviewing, and improving technical procedures, work instructions, and engineering documentation
  • Complex problemsolving, rootcause analysis, and field troubleshooting for critical electrical and operational issues
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives to optimize power generation performance, asset reliability, and lifecycle outcomes
  • Applying expert knowledge of hydroelectric generation standards, codes, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliant and appropriate solutions
  • Acting as the primary contact for maintenance teams and capital project contractors and consultants, including scope development, oversight of field execution, quality assurance, and technical advice for the lifecycle of capital projects

About you

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.). Candidates who are not registered but who bring relevant experience may be considered at an appropriate level.
  • Progressive and hands-on electrical engineering experience, including exposure to commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational decisionmaking in power generation or heavy industrial environments.
  • Experience in asset condition monitoring and diagnostic techniques for rotating and/or critical equipment
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively in small, sitebased teams, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability
  • Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), such as SAP, to support maintenance and asset management activities

The base salary range for this role is $116,000 - $174,000 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
