What is Flutter UI design?

Flutter UI design refers to the process of creating user interfaces for mobile, web, and desktop applications using Flutter, an open-source UI software development toolkit by Google. With Flutter, designers and developers use a widget-based approach to build visually appealing and highly customizable interfaces that work across multiple platforms from a single codebase. Flutter offers a rich set of pre-designed widgets and tools, enabling fast prototyping and consistent design. Its hot reload feature also allows for real-time updates, making the design and development process more efficient.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Flutter UI designer?

To thrive as a Flutter UI Designer, you need strong expertise in UI/UX principles, proficiency with the Dart programming language, and experience in designing and building mobile interfaces using Flutter. Familiarity with design tools like Figma or Adobe XD and a solid understanding of Flutter’s widget system are typically required. Creativity, problem-solving, and effective communication help you collaborate with developers and build engaging, user-friendly interfaces. These skills ensure the delivery of visually appealing, high-performing mobile apps that meet user needs and business objectives.

What are some common challenges faced by Flutter UI designers when working on cross-platform projects?

Flutter UI Designers often encounter challenges ensuring consistent user experiences across both iOS and Android platforms. Differences in platform-specific design guidelines, device screen sizes, and performance optimization can require additional testing and adaptation. Collaboration with developers is key to overcoming these challenges, as designers must ensure that their UI concepts are both visually appealing and technically feasible within Flutter's framework. Staying updated with Flutter's evolving widgets and capabilities also helps designers deliver responsive, high-quality interfaces.

We are seeking a Senior User Interface Design Engineer to craft intuitive, high-trust digital experiences across our clinical tools and care-facing platforms. You'll balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution within your product area - from discovery to pixel-perfect delivery - while bringing an AI-fluent mindset as design tooling evolves.
You'll join a lean, high-impact design team of two supporting design across all of CenterWell IT, reporting to the Director, Technology Solutions while aligning on design system and overall standards with the Lead UI Designer. You'll work closely with product, engineering, and clinical stakeholders to solve complex healthcare workflows that reduce cognitive load for care teams and provide clarity for patient care.
Key Responsibilities
  • Own end-to-end design for assigned product verticals - from discovery through pixel-perfect delivery - including workflow design, information architecture, and interface design for data-dense, human-in-the-loop clinical workflows.
  • Support and contribute to design systems, patterns, and scalable design standards.
  • Present design recommendations and rationale to stakeholders, incorporating feedback and building alignment across teams.
  • Build interactive, high-fidelity prototypes to demonstrate complex interactions and validate user flows. Contribute to evolving how AI-assisted tools are incorporated into the design process as internal tooling access expands.
  • Plan and execute qualitative user research, usability testing, and feedback sessions with users and stakeholders to validate design decisions and iterate rapidly.
  • Accessibility & Health Literacy:Champion WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and plain-language design principles, ensuring interfaces are inclusive across varying levels of digital and health literacy.
  • Healthcare & Compliance Focus:Design with deep sensitivity to privacy, patient trust, and regulatory requirements

Use your skills to make an impact
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of hands-on product design experience (UI/UX) delivering digital products, web applications, or complex enterprise platforms from concept to launch, with a strong portfolio of complex interfaces demonstrating visual hierarchy and clean execution for data-dense applications.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Expert-level Figma skills (auto-layout, tokens, component variables, interactive prototyping).
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution - bringing informed perspective and problem-solving to your product area while operating within established design system and standards.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities, navigate ambiguous requirements, and maintain high design quality and output in a fast-paced, iterative environment.
  • Outstanding communication skills: able to articulate design decisions, present to cross-functional stakeholders, and discuss technical constraints and tradeoffs directly with engineers.
  • Demonstrated success using design to improve business and customer outcomes, such as patient satisfaction, engagement, retention, or operational efficiency.
  • AI Fluency:Understanding of how AI-driven features behave in-product (latency handling, confidence scoring, human-in-the-loop workflows) and genuine interest in AI-assisted design tools.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing within clinical, healthcare, or health-tech environments, or in other regulated/high-stakes domains.
  • Experience designing interfaces for complex data pipelines, dynamic real-time data, or decision-support tools.
