Job description

Dental Hygienist

Contentnea Health is a Community Health Center providing comprehensive medical, dental and behavioral health services for members of our communities in Greene, Pitt and Pamlico counties in eastern North Carolina.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provides preventative dental care to patients in consultation with dentist.
    • Performs dental prophylaxis and/or scaling and root planing.
    • Performs periodontal probing.
    • Performs fluoride treatment and applies dental sealants as appropriate.
    • Exposes and processes dental radiographs.
    • Provides oral hygiene education to patients.
    • Administers local dental anesthetic if certified.
    • Documents clinical encounters in electronic health record (EHR) within timelines in established policies and procedures.
    • Seats and discharges patients, cleans and disinfects operatory between patients.
    • Adheres to established scheduling templates in provision of patient care.
  • Participates in quality metrics directives and departmental quality improvement (QI) projects.
    • Maintains current knowledge of quality initiatives by regularly attending the practitioners', clinical site and practice meetings, and reviewing internal communications and resources.
    • Complies with Clinical Quality Measures expectations.
    • Modifies workflows as determined by department to attain QI objectives.
    • Consistently documents activities related to QI objectives.
  • Supports dental operations.
    • Assists chair side in delivery of dental treatment when staffing demands require.
    • Participates in outreach and dental education programs as assigned.
    • Assists Practice Manager with maintaining stock/monitoring hygiene supplies.
    • Cleans and sterilizes dental instruments.

Qualifications and Skills Associate's Degree in Dental Hygiene. Current licensure as a Dental Hygienist in good standing with the North Carolina Board of Dental Examiners. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
