What is a flower technician?

Flower Technicians are professionals who specialize in the cultivation, care, and processing of flowering plants, often within agricultural, horticultural, or cannabis production settings. Their duties typically include planting, watering, pruning, monitoring plant health, and ensuring optimal growth conditions. In industries like cannabis, Flower Technicians are responsible for trimming, harvesting, and preparing the flowers for further processing or sale. They must have knowledge of plant biology, pest management, and safe handling practices. Attention to detail and adherence to industry regulations are crucial aspects of this role.

What are the daily responsibilities of a flower technician?

As a Flower Technician in a commercial greenhouse, your daily tasks often include monitoring plant health, watering, pruning, and ensuring optimal growing conditions such as temperature and humidity. You may also be responsible for pest and disease management, tracking plant growth stages, and assisting with inventory or order fulfillment. Collaboration with horticulturists, growers, and other technicians is common to ensure the highest quality flowers are produced. Attention to detail and strong observational skills are key to success in this role.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a flower technician?

To thrive as a Flower Technician, you need a solid understanding of plant biology, floral arrangement techniques, and experience with horticultural practices, often supported by a relevant certificate or on-the-job training. Familiarity with greenhouse management systems, inventory software, and tools for planting, pruning, and maintaining flowers is typically required. Attention to detail, creativity, and strong communication skills help ensure high-quality floral displays and effective teamwork. These skills are crucial for maintaining healthy plants, meeting customer expectations, and contributing to efficient floral operations.
