Floral Clerk Job Description:

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:  To provide support in Floral Department sales, plant care and design.  To contribute toward ensuring a positive shopping environment for customers and a positive working environment for employees.

NATURE AND SCOPE:  Emphasis is on customer service, creative floral design and proper care of plants and cut flowers. Primary learning challenge is ability to design a variety of floral arrangements properly. This position requires ongoing judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, listening skills, light lifting, standing, and operation of clippers, knives and scissors. Position functions may vary according to business needs. The Floral Manager or person in charge provides assignments and work direction.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
  • Assist with customer orders
    • Provide courteous, prompt and accurate customer service
    • Determine type, style and price of arrangement desired
    • Design arrangement according to order and Sendik’s Fine Foods procedures
    • Package order
  • Receive and price as necessary all plants and flowers supplied  
    • Check shipment for content and quality
    • Verify delivery to invoices and sign for product
    • Strip, cut, condition and price flowers properly
    • Follow retails and prices for all products and put on display
    • Ensure proper pricing in all store and department systems
  • Take care of floral items
    • Remove hanging baskets from display rack with plant hook, water and replace to rack
    • Check and water all green and blooming plants on sales floor
    • Remove dead leaves
    • Process all fresh flowers upon arrival
    • Check water levels in all fresh flower items
  • Clean coolers
    • Sweep, mop cooler when condensation builds 
    • Clean windows, condense flowers and remove empty buckets for cleaning
  • Follow all store and department policies and procedures
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Lifting/carrying up to 95 lbs.
    • Pushing/pulling up to 2000 lbs.
    • Equipment operation (shopping cart, pallet jack, flat bed, pricing gun, calculator, cutting or trimming knives, scissors, under-water flower cutter, wire cutter, clippers, pruners, watering can, ladder, plant hook, rack, telephone)
