As of Jul 29, 2026, the average yearly pay for floor trader in the United States is $96,774.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $56,500.00 and $105,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges floor traders face in today's increasingly electronic trading environment?

Floor traders often encounter challenges adapting to the rapid shift toward electronic trading platforms, which have reduced the volume of open outcry trading and increased competition. Staying updated on evolving technologies, maintaining strong client relationships, and developing new strategies to compete with algorithmic traders are crucial for success. Additionally, floor traders must be quick decision-makers, able to handle high-pressure situations, and collaborate effectively with other traders, brokers, and support staff to maximize trading opportunities.

What jobs pay 4000 a week without a degree?

A floor trader can potentially earn $4,000 or more per week through commissions and profit sharing, especially in active trading environments like stock or commodities exchanges. Success in this role depends on experience, market knowledge, and risk management skills, with some traders earning high income without formal degrees. However, it often requires significant training, certification, and a strong understanding of financial markets.

What are floor traders?

Floor traders are individuals who buy and sell financial instruments, such as stocks, options, or futures, directly on the trading floor of an exchange. They act on their own behalf, using their own capital to profit from short-term price movements. Floor traders are distinct from brokers, who execute trades on behalf of clients. While electronic trading has reduced the number of floor traders, they still play a role in maintaining liquidity and efficient price discovery on some exchanges.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Floor Trader, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Floor Trader, you need strong quantitative skills, in-depth market knowledge, and typically a bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a related field. Proficiency with trading platforms, order management systems, and sometimes FINRA or exchange-specific licenses is essential. Quick decision-making, resilience under pressure, and effective communication help traders excel in the fast-paced trading environment. These skills ensure that traders can execute orders efficiently, manage risk, and capitalize on market opportunities in real time.

How much do traders on the floor make?

Floor traders typically earn a base salary that can range from $50,000 to over $150,000 annually, with additional compensation from commissions and bonuses based on trading performance. Experienced traders with strong skills and a good track record can earn significantly more, especially in high-volume trading environments.

What does a floor trader actually do?

A floor trader buys and sells securities directly on the trading floor of an exchange, executing orders for clients or their firm. They monitor market activity, use trading tools, and often work in a fast-paced environment to capitalize on price movements and liquidity. Strong knowledge of market regulations and quick decision-making are essential skills for this role.

What jobs make $3,000 a day?

Floor traders in financial markets can sometimes earn $3,000 or more per day through successful trading of stocks, commodities, or derivatives, especially with significant experience and capital. High-level traders often work in fast-paced environments and require strong analytical skills, risk management, and access to trading platforms. Such earnings are typically associated with experienced professionals in investment firms or hedge funds.

Job description

Belvedere Trading is a leading proprietary trading firm. We are a team driven by intellectual curiosity, seeking answers that will change not only how we trade in this technological age, but also the future landscape of the trading industry.
Our traders provide liquidity to the market through their market-making activities and are the masters of a diverse set of commodities, interest rates, exchange-traded funds (ETF), and equity index options. Traders partner with our technologists to continually engineer and optimize our trading systems to stay on top of the industry.
Join the pulse of the trading floor at Belvedere Trading, where tradition and innovation converge in the dynamic environment of the MIAX Sapphire trading floor. As a Floor Trader, you'll play a critical role in providing liquidity and driving performance in the open outcry marketplace.
At Belvedere, we've built our success on a foundation of intellectual curiosity and continuous improvement. From developing proprietary technology to refining our trading strategies, we are committed to staying at the forefront of the industry. Our traders work seamlessly with our technology teams to optimize models and enhance performance, ensuring we remain agile in an ever-evolving market landscape.
We are seeking a seasoned professional with expertise in single stock equity volatility and a background in open outcry or voice/chat market making. This role offers the opportunity to apply your market insights and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment where every trade makes an impact. Experience on the MIAX Sapphire floor or a comparable options trading floor is strongly preferred, particularly in environments that support large, complex orders and combine proprietary technology with open outcry price discovery.
What you'll do:
  • Provide consistent liquidity in assigned options products while supporting efficient, orderly markets.
  • Execute floor-based, voice-assisted, or hybrid options trades with precision and strong commercial judgment.
  • Apply proprietary pricing models, volatility analysis, and risk frameworks to manage positions and improve trade selection
  • Monitor market activity, order flow, and quote quality in real time to identify opportunities and respond quickly to changing conditions
  • Partner with technologists and quantitative teams to enhance trading tools, optimize workflows, and improve execution performance
  • Contribute market insight, trade feedback, and post-trade analysis to help refine strategy and portfolio management
  • Communicate clearly with brokers, counterparties, and internal stakeholders to support effective coordination on the trading floor
  • Operate with strong accountability, risk discipline, and a continuous-improvement mindset aligned with firm performance goals

What you'll need:
  • 2+ years of experience in options market-making at a proprietary trading firm or comparable trading environment
  • Prior floor trading experience on MIAX or comparable physical exchange
  • Strong understanding of options pricing, volatility, market microstructure, and liquidity provision
  • An ability to apply quantitative skills and logical reasoning to solve complex problems
  • Demonstrated ability to make high-quality decisions under pressure and manage risk in fast-moving markets.

$175,000 - $250,000 a year
Additionally, certain positions at Belvedere Trading are eligible for discretionary bonuses. Our employees have access to a variety of benefits, which can be found on our website here.
