Floating Library Assistant Jobs in Virginia (NOW HIRING)

Introduction Prince William Public Libraries (PWPL) is seeking two (2) organized, creative, and community-focused individuals to join the Youth Services Department at Montclair Library in Dumfries, Virginia. The ideal candidates are collaborative team players with excellent customer service skills and a passion for serving children, teens, and their families. About This Role: Plan, implement, and assist with library programming, including story times, programs, tours, and outreach for youth of all ages and their families Regularly work at the integrated service desk and provide patrons with circulation, reader's advisory, reference, and technology assistance Maintain children's and young adult collections through weeding and rebalancing Create displays, book lists, flyers, posters and other handouts to promote the library's physical collection, online resources, and youth programming Represent Prince William Public Libraries at outreach events Train, schedule, and supervise Teen Volunteers for Summer Reading Program and Teen Advisory Group Minimum Requirements: Master's degree in library or information science Preferences: Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a public library, school library, or bookstore.

Experience in planning, promoting, and implementing successful programs. Experience utilizing public library resources in both digital and physical formats. Experience collaborating effectively within a team in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and virtual meeting platforms such as Webex, or equivalent software. Experience assisting patrons with technology, including computers, printers, copiers, scanners, tablets, and e-readers. Experience using an Integrated Library System.

Experience conducting community outreach and building community partnerships. Experience planning and leading programs in a library setting or through a community-based organization. Experience with collection maintenance practices, including weeding, merchandising, and rebalancing floating collections.

Special Requirements: The position may require travel to other branches within the system. A DMV check will be conducted for employees who drive while on County business. Work Schedule: This is a full-time, exempt 37.5 hours per week position

Hours are scheduled Monday through Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m

to 5:00 p.m. The schedule includes days, one evening per week, and rotating weekends as assigned. Scheduling flexibility is imperative

Schedule may vary depending on the needs of the library.
