How much do flis jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 7, 2026, the average yearly pay for flis in the United States is $101,998.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $116,000.00 and $116,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Flis, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Flis (tiler), you need expertise in measuring, cutting, and installing tiles, usually acquired through vocational training or an apprenticeship. Familiarity with tools like tile cutters, grout applicators, and leveling systems, as well as safety certifications, is essential. Attention to detail, physical stamina, and effective communication with clients and team members help distinguish top professionals in this trade. These skills ensure precise, durable tile installations and satisfied customers in both residential and commercial projects.

What are Flis?

A Flis, also known as a tiler, is a skilled tradesperson responsible for installing tiles made of ceramic, porcelain, stone, or other materials on walls, floors, and other surfaces. Their work is commonly seen in kitchens, bathrooms, and commercial spaces. Flis professionals prepare surfaces, cut and fit tiles, apply adhesives, and ensure a high-quality, durable finish. Attention to detail and knowledge of various tile types and patterns are essential in this role.

What is the difference between Flis vs Electrician?

AspectFlisElectrician
Required CredentialsTypically vocational training, certification varies by regionLicensed, often requires apprenticeship and licensing exams
Work EnvironmentConstruction sites, residential and commercial buildingsResidential, commercial, industrial electrical systems
Industry UsageConstruction, renovation, flooring installationElectrical wiring, system installation and repair

While Flis specialists focus on flooring installation, electricians handle electrical systems. Both roles require technical skills and certifications, but electricians generally have more extensive licensing requirements. Understanding these differences helps clients choose the right professional for their project needs.

What are some common challenges faced by a Flis and how can they be overcome?

As a Flis, one of the main challenges is working with uneven or damaged surfaces, which can make tile installation more complex and time-consuming. Ensuring precise alignment and consistent spacing is crucial, especially on larger projects. Collaboration with other trades, such as plumbers and electricians, is also common and requires good communication to coordinate timelines and workspace. Staying updated on new tiling materials and techniques can help overcome these challenges and improve efficiency on the job.
