Job Description:

Manages a team of planners and manufacturing engineers (Mes) responsible for generation and maintaining work instructions supporting the RS-25 large liquid rocket engine assembly, pump assembly, and testing.ย  Directs daily activities of the group and works with other disciplines to effectively achieve cost and schedule goals.ย  Provides input for estimates and tracks hours related to work instruction creation and Manufacturing Engineer engine assembly tasks. Guides Mes through flight engine manufacturing, assembly, and test lead tasks.

Essential Functions:

ย 

  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance.
  • Leads and directs Manufacturing Engineering team through daily activities.
  • Leads team through continuous improvement processes such as statistical process control, process variation management, design for excellence tools, Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP), and capability modeling
  • Works with Quality, Engineering, and Safety organizations to achieve common goals.
  • Communicates with contacts inside and outside of own department to explain and interpret operational processes, practices, and procedures.
  • Recommends enhancements to systems and processes.
  • Works to achieve operational targets for specific programs and projects with moderate impact on departmental results.
  • Works under general supervision.
  • Responsible for providing guidance, coaching, and training to other employees within job area.
  • Provides design for manufacturability and assembly feedback to design center.
  • Reads and interprets engineering drawings and requirements to translate to process planning that produces conforming hardware.
  • Assists in product and tooling drawing design reviews.
  • Provides technical guidance and/or training to shop floor, design and management teams.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 9 years prior manufacturing engineering experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 7 years of prior manufacturing engineering. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of manufacturing engineering experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

ย 

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with all levels of manufacturing staff.
  • Experience with Delmia.
  • Experience with deploying electronic work instructions or BOMs.
  • Previous leadership role of manufacturing, front-loading product definition, and technical work instruction development to comply with product and process definitions.
  • Proficiency in machining, geometric design and tolerancing, and assembly processes.
