Job description

RAM Aerospace is a leader in aerospace innovation, powering flight and space exploration with precision solenoids, valves, and actuators. Since 1975, we've supported missions like the Space Shuttle and continue to deliver mission-critical components for commercial, defense, and satellite systems. As one of Southern Utah's largest employers, we drive economic growth and offer high-skilled careers in engineering and manufacturing. From our advanced facility in St. George, we build the future of aerospace-on time, with excellence, and as a team. Join us to work on groundbreaking technology and help shape the future of flight and space exploration. Your career takes off here!
As our Plating Technician, you are a "surface science" expert responsible for the final protection and finish of our precision-machined aerospace components. You will set up and operate advanced plating and coating equipment to apply critical layers of nickel, cadmium, and other materials that protect parts from the extreme environments of space and high-altitude flight. This role requires a unique blend of mechanical aptitude and chemistry-focused attention to detail. If you are a methodical worker who takes pride in flawless finishes and enjoys working in a high-compliance chemical processing environment, we want you on our team.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plating Process Operation: Set up and operate plating and coating equipment. You will precisely manage immersion times and part-specific processes to ensure coatings meet exacting aerospace thickness and adhesion standards.
  • Surface Preparation & Masking: Inspect incoming parts for surface deformities and perform critical pre-plating tasks, including cleaning, degreasing, and stringing/racking/hanging products for optimal coating coverage.
  • Chemical Bath Maintenance: Test and monitor the chemical properties of plating baths to ensure they remain within strict specifications. You will adjust solutions as needed and verify that all tools and equipment are in proper working order.
  • HazMat Handling & Safety: Safely handle, transport, and utilize acids and other hazardous chemicals required for the plating process. You will maintain a spotless and safe work area, adhering to all environmental and safety regulations.
  • Waste Treatment Compliance: Process solution waste to comply with local and federal regulations prior to disposal, ensuring RAM's commitment to environmental responsibility.
  • Quality Documentation: Maintain accurate and meticulous production documentation to provide full traceability for every part processed, in accordance with aerospace quality standards.

Requirements
  • Legal: Must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check and drug screening.
  • ITAR: Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum (due to ITAR requirements).
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a manufacturing or chemical processing environment is a plus, but we are willing to train candidates with a high attention to detail.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient with basic math and science principles. Ability to read and follow technical work instructions and safety data sheets (SDS).
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to stand for long periods and work around chemical tanks. Must be comfortable wearing specialized PPE (aprons, face shields, respirators). Must be able to lift up to 25lbs consistently when racking and un-racking parts.
