The Flight Systems Futures team executes the design and development, procurement/manufacturing, and integration & test of novel flight systems across a broad spectrum of applications.
Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Lead a small team of design engineers from conceptual design to final design for a space based vehicle. Overseeing the execution of mechanical design and PDP generation to procure, manufacture, and assemble the vehicle.
  • Attending internal program, customer and/or supplier technical exchange meetings
  • Support formal program milestone reviews to provide and/or obtain progress status updates.
  • Working in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels.
  • Ensure appropriate coordination between electrical design and other integration teams.
  • Coordinate electrical system engineering content and work products.
  • Develop Product Definition Packages (PDPs)/Analysis Data Packages (ADPs) and take them through the full review and release process.
  • Review engineering deliverables such as MBOMs, part data sheets, mechanical ICDs, specifications, mechanical analysis and trade studies.
  • May perform research, trade studies, evaluation, and systems integration analyses for SWaP and mass properties.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to work effectively to understand system level interdependencies that impact electrical requirements and design constraints. Demonstrate leadership principles - Integrity, respect, organizational, communication etc.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience
  • Must have an active Secret clearance at time of application
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need
  • 5+ years of experience with CAD modeling (Siemens NX preferred)
  • Familiar with common engineering standards (ISO, ASME, Mil Spec, NAS, etc.)
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills when conveying technical content
  • Knowledge of GD&T, materials selection, and manufacturing processes
  • Must have 2+ years of experience leading Mechanical Engineering and/or technical teams
  • Must have mechanical design experience for hypersonic systems, flight systems, and/or missiles
  • Must have experience with systems packaging, sizing, and weight tradeoffs and analysis

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Flight test vehicle proto-qualification
  • Experience with mechanical ICD development with vendors
  • Experience with Team Center (CPLM) and the Product Definition Package (PDP) release process
  • Experience with the ASME Y14.X suite of engineering drawing standards
  • Experience with requirements management and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) principles
  • Experience performing dynamic and static analysis (NX Motion or ANSYS preferred)

Primary Level Salary Range: $111,700.00 - $167,500.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
