Overview: The School Nurse ensures that necessary medically related services are provided and monitored for students with disabilities attending the RISE Learning Center and the member districts.
Qualifications: Registered Nurse with Bachelor's degree due to the responsibility of the nursing process under IC 25-23-1-7.
Program Responsibilities: The School Nurse will need to possess the ability to remain calm and assess situations or crisis that may develop in all aspects of health care including (a) recognizing and assisting students with various types of seizures with skill in using a Vagal Nerve Stimulator (VNS) with Diastat to stop seizure activity; (b) skill in tracheostomy care with ventilator knowledge; (c) skill in G-tube, J-tube management; (d) skill in treatments for asthma (MOIs, nebulizer treatments, etc.) and (e) knowledge of other related medical interventions and prescriptions.
