Foth is looking for a Project Coastal Engineer/Numerical Modeler supports coastal and marine projects through numerical modeling, data analysis, and technical design, translating complex coastal processes into clear insights for clients and teams. This collaborative, primarily office-based role includes preparing reports, graphics, and calculations while supporting permitting, construction review, and project delivery.

You'll contribute to projects such as beach nourishment, inlet studies, and coastal structures, while mentoring junior staff and serving as a client-facing technical resource. This role is based in Jacksonville, FL, with consideration for candidates in the South Florida (Palm Beach County) area and a future in-office expectation.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with Project Managers, technical staff, and clients to prepare/review technical approaches and proposals for projects and/or coastal engineering tasks supporting large multi-disciplinary projects
  • Apply numerical modeling tools to analyze coastal and riverine systems. This includes wave dynamics, hydrodynamics, sediment transport, and shoreline or seabed morphological change in support of a broad range of engineering efforts
  • Complete end-to-end numerical modeling projects, from data collection and preparation, model development and testing, to post-processing of results. Produce clear visual model outputs such as figures, animations, and technical deliverables including reports and presentation materials
  • Prepare construction documents, including engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Develop permit applications and supporting documents
  • Participate in high-level communication efforts with clients from proposal phase to project completion phase, as a technical expert
  • Make formal and informal presentations to both technical and lay audiences
  • Build and facilitate teamwork among members across all disciplines and levels, with a focus on numerical modeling of coastal and riverine systems
  • Mentor and support the development of junior technical staff
  • Develop and continuously improve standard work practices
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in coastal, ocean, civil, or environmental engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in coastal engineering, including 2+ years with processbased models (e.g., MIKE21/3, Delft3D, ADCIRC, XBeach)
  • Experience with MATLAB or Python for model pre/postprocessing
  • Experience with wave mechanics and coastal sediment transport projects
  • Experience with beach nourishment and technical report preparation
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or PhD in coastal, ocean, civil, geotechnical, or environmental engineering
  • 8+ years consulting experience in coastal/marine projects
  • Professional Engineer (or ability to obtain within ~10 months)
  • Experience with metocean analyses, coastal structure design, and additional models (SWAN, STWAVE, GENESIS/GENCADE, WAVEWATCH III, SWASH, SLOSH, etc.)
  • Experience with CAD, GIS, and hydrologic/flood modeling tools (HECHMS, HECRAS, SWMM, MIKE SHE, GSSHA)
