As of Jul 14, 2026, the average yearly pay for flexible pilot single engine in the United States is $130,916.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $100,000.00 and $155,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

Is there still a pilot shortage in 2026?

The pilot shortage, including for roles like flexible single-engine pilots, has been a concern in recent years due to increased travel demand and pilot retirements. Industry projections suggest the shortage may persist into 2026, emphasizing the importance of relevant certifications, flight hours, and adaptability to various aircraft types for job seekers.

What pilots make $500,000 a year?

Highly experienced airline pilots, especially captains flying large international or long-haul routes for major carriers, can earn $500,000 or more annually. These salaries often include base pay, overtime, and bonuses, and require extensive flight hours, seniority, and advanced certifications such as an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) license.

How much does a single engine pilot make?

A single engine pilot's salary varies based on experience, employer, and flight hours, but typically ranges from $25,000 to $70,000 annually. Entry-level pilots or those flying part-time may earn less, while experienced pilots with additional certifications can earn higher wages, especially in charter or corporate flying environments.

Do pilots make $400 an hour?

Flexible Pilot Single Engine pilots typically earn less than $400 an hour, with pay rates varying based on experience, aircraft type, and employer. Most single-engine pilots earn hourly rates ranging from $20 to $100, though highly experienced or specialized pilots may earn higher rates. Compensation depends on factors such as flight hours, certifications, and the nature of the flying job.
