We are seeking an Environmental Manager for our First Quality Tissue Midwest, LLC facility located in Defiance, OH. This position will be responsible for organizing, managing, developing and maintaining compliance with FQTMW's environmental programs.
Primary responsibilities include:
  • Ensure that First Quality's safety culture is maintained and safety considerations are given the highest priority.
  • Integrate with the project team to ensure the construction, start-up, and operation of the raw water and wastewater treatment systems are as planned and remain compliant with the site's NPDES and PTI permits.
  • Ensure air quality controls are consistent with and remain compliant with the site's Title V air permit.
  • Ensure waste generation is reduced to the extent practicable, that recycling is the preferred waste disposition option and that waste disposal is conducted in compliance with all appropriate regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain environmental policies, procedures and training programs.
  • Develop and maintain environmental management system.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies regarding environmental programs.
  • In conjunction with the environmental director, respond to external inquiries regarding environmental matters.
  • Ensure all required reports are completed and submitted to appropriate agencies in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure FQTMW is in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local environmental rules and regulations.
  • Leads the investigation of environmental incidents.
  • Represents FQTMW in community or industry environmental groups.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with environmental regulators, departments, and FQT divisional environmental team to support shared goals.

The ideal candidate should possess the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental management, or related field required.
  • Five years of experience developing, implementing and operating water treatment systems including the selection and injection of appropriate chemistries.
  • Five years of environmental program leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Air, waste, wastewater and storm water permitting experience.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local environmental rules and regulations.
  • Possess and steadfastly adhere to high moral principles and professional standards.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote strong working relationships with internal teams, regulators and governmental agencies
  • Strong leadership and training skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Qualified Team Members will be selected based on demonstrated work history, manufacturing experience, educational background, demonstrated behavior, effectiveness in working with teams, and personal interview.
  • First 3 months, intermittent onboarding will take place in Anderson, South Carolina and Lock Haven, PA.
