Job description

Position Title: Intern
Department: Administration, Family Services, Development, and/or Operations
Reports To: Assigned Department Supervisor
FLSA Status: Unpaid Internship


Position Summary

The Ronald McDonald House Atlanta Internship Program offers a hands-on, immersive experience for students and emerging professionals interested in nonprofit operations, family-centered services, and community engagement. Interns will support day-to-day operations while gaining practical experience in one or more functional areas, including Administration, Family Services , Development, and Operations.


This internship provides meaningful exposure to the mission of Ronald McDonald House Atlanta and the opportunity to contribute directly to programs that support families with critically ill or injured children.


Learning Opportunities & Areas of Experience


Depending on organizational needs, intern interests, and background, interns may gain experience in one or more of the areas below:


Administration

  • Office and administrative support projects
  • Data entry, record management, and internal process support
  • Assisting with scheduling, correspondence, and internal communications


Family Services

  • Supporting Family Services staff in daily programming
  • Assisting with check‑ins, family activities, and hospitality services
  • Observing best practices in family-centered care within a nonprofit setting


Development

  • Supporting fundraising and stewardship initiatives
  • Assisting with donor research, data management, and special events
  • Exposure to nonprofit fundraising strategies, communications, and outreach


Operations

  • Assisting with facilities, logistics, and program coordination
  • Supporting volunteer engagement and meals programs
  • Contributing to projects that ensure safe, welcoming, and efficient House operations


Culinary

  • Supporting the Culinary team with meal service preparation and coordination
  • Assisting with kitchen organization, inventory support, and sanitation practices
  • Observing food safety standards and large‑scale meal service operations
  • Supporting meal programs that directly serve families staying at the House


General Responsibilities


  • Complete assigned projects and administrative tasks in a timely and professional manner
  • Work collaboratively with staff across departments
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with families, donors, and volunteers
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and learning opportunities as assigned
  • Represent Ronald McDonald House Atlanta with compassion, integrity, and enthusiasm


Physical Requirements


  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, families, volunteers, and guests
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, including a computer, phone, and copier
  • Ability to lift and/or move materials weighing up to 25 pounds on occasion
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity, visual acuity, and focus
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, family‑centered environment with frequent interaction with others


Qualifications


  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited college or university
  • Coursework or interest in nonprofit management, business administration, social work, public health, communications, human services, or a related field
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Professional, team‑oriented, and mission‑driven approach to work
