What is a Flexible Chinese Remote?

A Flexible Chinese Remote job refers to a position where an employee works remotely, often from home or any location, and the job is related to the Chinese language or market. These jobs can include teaching Chinese, translation, customer service for Chinese-speaking clients, or working for companies based in China. 'Flexible' indicates that the job offers adaptable work hours, allowing employees to set their schedules or work part-time as needed. Such roles are ideal for individuals who need work-life balance or live in different time zones. They usually require proficiency in Chinese and sometimes additional skills depending on the job's nature.

How does working as a Flexible Chinese Remote employee typically structure collaboration and communication with team members?

As a Flexible Chinese Remote employee, effective collaboration relies heavily on digital tools such as instant messaging, video conferencing, and shared project management platforms. Team members often work across different time zones, so clear communication and regular check-ins are essential to stay aligned on goals and deadlines. Despite working remotely, you'll likely participate in virtual meetings, contribute to group projects, and maintain open channels for feedback. Proactive communication and self-motivation are key to thriving in this flexible and remote environment.

To excel as a Flexible Chinese Remote worker, you typically need fluency in Mandarin and English, strong digital literacy, and familiarity with remote work practices. Proficiency with collaboration tools like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and cloud-based platforms is often required, along with any relevant certifications based on the specific role (e.g., teaching, customer service, or translation). Excellent time management, self-motivation, and cross-cultural communication skills help individuals stand out in this remote setting. These abilities are crucial for maintaining productivity, ensuring clear communication, and successfully navigating the challenges of working remotely across different cultures.

Job description

Outlier helps the world's most innovative companies improve their AI models by providing human feedback. Are you a strong communicator with fluency in Chinese who would like to lend your expertise to train AI models?
About the opportunity:
  • Outlier is looking for talented Chinese-speaking conversationalists to help train generative AI voice models
  • This freelance opportunity is remote and hours are flexible, so you can work whenever is best for you

You may contribute your expertise by...
  • Participating in a live, scenario-based conversation in Chinese with an AI voice model, playing out a natural, realistic exchange
  • Listening to and reviewing recorded Chinese-language conversations between a speaker and an AI model, checking whether the model follows the scenario and any relevant guidelines
  • Scoring conversations across dimensions like naturalness, helpfulness, and audio quality, then explaining your ratings in detail

Examples of desirable expertise:
  • Native or highly fluent Chinese speaker, comfortable with natural, everyday conversational speech
  • Experience with improvisation, role-play, or unscripted performance (acting, improv, podcasting, voice work)
  • Customer-facing experience where you regularly handle unscripted conversations (customer service, sales, coaching, interviewing)
  • Experience evaluating or reviewing conversations, calls, or audio content (QA, call auditing, content moderation)

Payment:
  • Project work: Earn up to USD $20.00 per hour for core project work
  • Additional incentives: On average, Outlier Contributors earn an additional 7.5% on top of the core project rates through Missions - Outlier's version of surge pricing. The top quartile of contributors boost their earnings by an average of 11%.
  • Rates vary based on expertise, skills assessment, location, project need, and other factors. For example, higher rates may be offered to PhDs. For non-core work, such as during initial project onboarding or project overtime phases, lower rates apply. Additional incentives data is based on payments made in the past six months and is updated quarterly. Certain projects offer incentive payments. Please review the payment terms for each project.

PLEASE NOTE: We collect, retain and use personal data for our professional business purposes, including notifying you of opportunities that may be of interest and sharing with our affiliates. We limit the personal data we collect to that which we believe is appropriate and necessary to manage applicants' needs, provide our services, and comply with applicable laws. Any information we collect in connection with your application will be treated in accordance with the Outlier Privacy Policy and our internal policies and programs designed to protect personal data.
This is a 1099 contract opportunity on the Outlier.ai platform. Because this is a freelance opportunity, we do not offer internships, sponsorship, or employment. You must be authorized to work in your country of residence. If you are an international student, you may be able to sign up for Outlier if you are on a visa. You should contact your tax and/or immigration advisor with specific questions regarding your circumstances.
