Job Overview

The Cabrillo Education Foundation (CEF) is a nonprofit organization that serves all students across the Cabrillo Unified School District (CUSD) while operating independently from CUSD.

CEF is a reputable organization with a strong funding base, seeking a hands‑on leader. As the only CEF employee, the Executive Director will provide leadership and guidance that builds upon the organization’s mission and vision. The Executive Director will identify and create strategic opportunities for CEF, develop and report outcome measures for future development and allocation impact, and establish and drive research/benchmarking (related to development and allocations), while working in collaboration with the Board, stakeholders, and the community.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement short‑ and long‑term program strategic plans and daily operations/policies.
  • Collaboratively develop program plans and fundraising strategies with the Board; involve the Board in key decisions.
  • Lead Board and committee meetings; recruit, train, and manage volunteers.
  • Maintain compliance and official records; ensure legal and regulatory adherence.
  • Provide timely, clear program and financial reporting to the Board.
  • Oversee communications: serve as spokesperson, publicize CEF goals/results, and maintain Board updates.
  • Cultivate partnerships and represent CEF with local school districts, civic groups, and organizations.
  • Manage budgeting and finances: prepare annual budgets, monthly reports, and cash flow projections; handle daily transactions with the bookkeeper.
  • Align programs with mission: execute mission‑driven programs, monitor trends, protect long‑term sustainability, and perform other Board‑assigned duties
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • 3–5 years in a growing leadership role (preferably education/nonprofit/fundraising) with a bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Demonstrated success in winning and managing grant funds.
  • Excellent written/public speaking/marketing skills and strong planning, attention to detail, and self‑motivation.
  • Experience collaborating on diverse teams; familiarity with public schools or quick learner in that setting.
  • Local knowledge of the San Mateo County coastside (or ability to learn quickly); ability to build relationships with Spanish‑speaking and immigrant communities and use online databases/document tools.

In addition, candidates will need to:

  • Often work evenings and occasional weekends to support meetings, community events, and fundraisers.
  • Provide your own car, insurance, and a valid driver’s license or other means to travel throughout the Bay Area.
  • Pass a background check.
