LPN Outpatient - Cardiology Clinic - FLEX TIME (Open)

Location: 2001 Crystal Spring Avenue, Suite 203, Roanoke, VA.

Shift: Monday‑Friday, 8am–4:30pm (flex time/prn); no weekends or holidays.

Responsibilities:

• Provides practical nursing support in the delivery of quality care for patients in a physician practice or clinic setting as directed by the physician or mid‑level practitioner.
• Complies with all federal, state, local, Carilion Clinic, and departmental policies and standards as applicable.
• Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served.
• Provides nursing care for patients of all ages.
• Completes patient assessment, including height, weight, vital signs, chief complaint, current medications, etc.
• Prepares patient for provider evaluation—obtaining specimens, positioning for exams, listing medications, assisting during exams and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Coordinates tele‑retinal and tele‑dermatology clinic set‑up.
• Administers medications and injections as directed by the provider.
• Maintains work area, exam, treatment, and x‑ray rooms and lab in a clean, safe manner; restocks supplies and instruments; sterilizes reusable equipment as needed.
• Documents and maintains patient information in the electronic medical record in a timely manner, including update treatment procedures, medication refills, test results, patient concerns, etc.
• Contributes to Carilion Clinic's performance improvement activities.
• Provides patient teaching as indicated and directed by the provider—laboratory results, diet instructions, medication instructions, appropriate follow‑up, and reinforcing provider instructions as needed.
• Assists with referral authorizations for specialists and pre‑authorizations for testing and ancillary services.
• Assists with lab procedures, including collecting urine specimens, collecting and preparing blood samples for reference lab, labeling all specimens with accurate patient ID; observes all safety precautions and standards; ensures proper disposal of specimens and contaminated waste.
• Manages lab duties (if applicable): performs phlebotomy, peripheral sticks, collecting and preparing urine specimens, throat smears; conducts onsite lab testing after appropriate training; prepares equipment, runs daily quality control tests, performs proficiency testing and conducts control testing and calibration on all equipment; maintains Q/A Plan.
• Manages radiology duties (if applicable): performs x‑ray procedures as directed, takes measures to prevent excessive exposure to patients and self, completes all documentation and labeling of x‑rays.
• Performs any other tasks related to the operation of the practice that may be assigned or requested for which training has been provided.

Qualifications:

• Education: Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing required, or new graduate of an approved program eligible to sit for the Virginia licensure exam.
• Experience: One (1) year experience in a physician office preferred.
• Licensure/Certification: Current licensure as a Practical Nurse in the State of Virginia (LPN) required; licensure as a Radiologic Technician Limited if performing radiology.
• Current AHA BLS‑HCP certification required.
• Customer driven, positive demeanor, good verbal and written communication skills, professional appearance and approach.
• Ability to problem‑solve and communicate effectively with a wide variety of people.
• Skills to utilize automated computer systems, including electronic medical records; keyboarding skills required for automated computer systems and EMR.

Compensation Range: $21.61 - $30.25 per hour, based on qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The range does not include benefits or pension plan.
