Job Description: Robot Pilot (Contract) - onsite in Waltham, MA

Boston Dynamics is a world leader in mobile robots, tackling some of the toughest robotics challenges. We combine the principles of dynamic control and balance with sophisticated mechanical designs, cutting-edge electronics, and next-generation software for high-performance robots equipped with perception, navigation, and intelligence.

The Bolt team is focused on advancing machine learning and manipulation capabilities, and we are seeking Robot Pilots to support hands-on robot operation and data collection in a fast-paced lab environment. This role is ideal for candidates who are comfortable using technology, enjoy working with advanced hardware, and can follow structured task instructions while providing thoughtful feedback to engineers.


Responsibilities

· Teleoperate our robots (mainly eAtlas and manipulation stands) using a VR system.

· Follow a task demonstration playbook to execute specific robot behaviors and scenarios.

· Communicate clearly with engineers and managers about blockers, improvement opportunities, and task observations.

· Monitor robot performance and behavior, identifying issues, inconsistencies, or unexpected outcomes.

· Interrupt robot execution when necessary and provide corrective demonstrations to support machine learning workflows.

· Participate in a continuous feedback loop, contributing to peer reviews and tooling/process improvements.

· Support quality assurance (QA) tasks during downtime when not actively teleoperating robots.

· Adapt quickly to evolving workflows and tooling, as this role will change alongside ongoing ML development

Qualifications:

Physical & Technical Requirements

· High School Degree or equivalent

· Ability to stand and move for extended periods, with breaks as needed.

· Able to lift up to 50 lbs.

· Comfortable wearing and operating VR headsets, motion capture suits, and handheld VR controllers for extended sessions.

o Note: VR use can be physically demanding and may cause discomfort or motion sickness for some individuals.

· Height requirement: 5'9"–6'3
