American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg / Telemetry for a travel nursing job in Rice Lake, Wisconsin.

Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry night shift position requiring WI or compact license and at least 2 years of relevant experience.

Details
  • Work in a Med/Surg Telemetry unit within an acute care hospital setting
  • 32-bed unit with an average daily census of 17.5 patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios of 5:1 for Med/Surg, 1:1 for ICU, and 1:2-1:4 for IMC step-down
  • Common diagnoses include COPD, pneumonia, AFib RVR, DKA, CIWA, and cardiac conditions
  • Cerner EMR is used, with a transition to Epic underway
  • 12-hour night shifts (1700-0530 or 0500-1730) with a 30-minute meal break
  • Flex weekend and flex holiday scheduling required
  • No self-scheduling or block scheduling available for agency nurses
  • Possible floating to the ED as a helping hand during codes or trauma if assigned to the code team
  • May be placed on low census/low needs status if census is low
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including pressors, insulin, anticoagulants, epinephrine, norepinephrine, vasopressin, and angiotensin-II
  • RNs are required to read their own telemetry strips
  • Unit staffed with a department charge nurse (who takes patient assignments) and a house supervisor
  • Two nurse aides scheduled per shift
  • Respiratory therapy equipment available including CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow, with RT coverage 22 hours per day, 7 days a week
Requirements
  • Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • Proficiency in phlebotomy, IV starts, EKG, telemetry monitoring, and cardioversion
  • Strong communication, teamwork, critical thinking, and time management skills required
Additional Information
  • Responsibilities include hourly rounding and bedside shift report (BSSR)
  • One day of unit-specific orientation provided
  • Navy blue scrubs required; hoodies not permitted
  • Candidates living within 80 miles of the facility are considered local
  • Former permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to submission and require facility approval to return
