Job description

POSITION: Park Ranger

DEPARTMENT: Parks

Location: Bendix Woods County Park

WORK SCHEDULE: Weekday evenings, weekends, holidays

JOB CATEGORY:

SALARY: $16/hr.

STATUS: Part-time (10-15 hours/week)

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

DATES: Until Filled

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function. The requirements listed in this document are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required. Incumbent serves as front line security and customer service representative for the park.

Responsibilities

Provides customer service and park services, checks in with rental groups, opens/closes the park facilities, enforcement of park regulations, conflict resolution, and crowd/traffic control.

Assists park visitors and provides protection and safety of parks and patrons, including visibly patrolling park properties by foot and in park vehicles.

Opens and closes gatehouse operations and performs related administrative tasks, including collecting fees, maintaining statistics/records, writing reports, and completing attendance logs. Completes incident and injury reports as necessary.

Assists Parks Department staff as needed, communicating concerns to appropriate staff members and supporting interpretive and leisure programs and special events as requested.

Qualifications

Must be least 21 years of age with a good driving record.

Must be able to address patrons in a calm, positive demeanor even under stressful situations.

Must be punctual and detail oriented.

Education/Experience

Must possess a high school diploma, GED, or higher.

Security or law enforcement experience a plus.

Cash register and credit card machine experience a plus

Physical Requirements

Incumbent performs duties involving varying weather conditions, sitting/standing/walking for long periods, sitting/walking at will, pushing/pulling objects, bending, reaching, crouching/kneeling, close/far vision, color depth perception, hearing sounds/communication, speaking clearly, handling/grasping objects. Incumbent maintains considerable contact with the public and may be exposed to irate/difficult people.
