Senior Tax Manager – Denver, Colorado (Hybrid)
Western Union is seeking a Senior Tax Manager to lead a team on quarterly and annual U.S. federal and state tax reporting. The role requires strong technical expertise, leadership, and the ability to collaborate with business units and external partners.
Eligibility
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis and must be based in Denver or Atlanta, or be willing to relocate to one of those cities. Western Union will not sponsor work visas for this position, will not assist with relocation costs, and expects candidates to work from the office minimum three days per week.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review supporting workpaper calculations for U.S. federal and state income tax returns.
- Manage and develop 1–2 direct reports and mentor other tax professionals.
- Coordinate return preparation with external tax preparers.
- Oversee quarterly tax payments and provide cash‑tax modeling to the executive team.
- Assist with quarterly and annual tax provision reporting, including preparation of calculations and technical documentation.
- Analyze books‑to‑tax differences and reconcile provision versus return differences.
- Communicate with business units to obtain necessary information for tax filings.
- Lead tax projects such as tax basis in subsidiaries, account reconciliation, utilization of tax credits and NOLs, and responding to audit inquiries.
- Research and communicate technical tax topics to executives.
- Develop, recommend, and implement new processes and procedures.
Qualifications
- Minimum 8+ years of tax experience in a large public accounting firm or multinational company.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required; master’s in accounting or tax preferred.
- CPA license preferred.
- Experience managing and developing tax professionals.
- Proficiency with tax reporting software (e.g., CorpTax, OneSource, Longview) and Oracle/HFM.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills; Alteryx and AI experience a strong plus.
- Energetic, self‑motivated team player with critical thinking, analysis, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Detail‑oriented, proactive, responsive, and resourceful.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
Salary
Base salary range: $160,000 – $190,000 USD per year. Total on‑target compensation includes a base salary plus annual incentives aligned with individual and company performance. Actual salaries will vary based on qualifications and experience.
