Fleet Manager - Equipment Rental
Houston, TX | Mustang Rental Services
Mustang Rental Services is hiring an experienced Fleet Manager to lead fleet strategy, utilization, and capital planning across our growing rental operations.
This is a high-impact role for someone who understands how to manage a large, diversified equipment fleet as a business asset-not simply maintain it. The Fleet Manager will oversee fleet performance across our branch network, helping ensure we have the right equipment, in the right market, at the right time while maximizing utilization and return on invested capital.
Working closely with Operations, Sales, Service, and Logistics, you'll use data and market demand to guide equipment purchases, fleet movement, lifecycle decisions, and dispositions.
What You'll Do
As Fleet Manager, you'll take ownership of fleet strategy and performance across Mustang Rental Services, including:
  • Develop and execute fleet strategies aligned with business growth and return on invested capital (ROIC)
  • Plan and manage equipment purchases, redeployments, rotations, and dispositions
  • Optimize fleet mix across general rental, specialty, and heavy equipment categories
  • Monitor fleet utilization, time on rent, idle equipment, fleet age, and asset performance
  • Identify underperforming assets and determine the appropriate action-reposition, re-rent, or dispose
  • Use customer demand, utilization trends, and financial performance to prioritize capital investments
  • Lead fleet positioning and rotation across multiple branches to support market demand and major customer projects
  • Partner with Logistics to coordinate equipment movement while controlling transportation and transfer costs
  • Manage equipment throughout its lifecycle, from acquisition through final disposition
  • Monitor maintenance costs, fleet age, utilization, and return performance to support replacement and disposition decisions
  • Partner with Sales to align fleet availability with customer demand and growth opportunities
  • Collaborate with Service and Operations to improve equipment readiness and reduce downtime
  • Develop and maintain fleet dashboards, reports, and performance metrics
  • Present fleet performance trends and data-driven recommendations to leadership

What We're Looking For
  • 7-10 years of experience in fleet management, asset management, equipment rental, or other capital-intensive operations
  • Experience in equipment rental, heavy equipment, construction, industrial services, or a related industry strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience managing a large or diversified asset portfolio
  • Strong understanding of fleet utilization, asset lifecycle management, ROI/ROIC, and capital planning
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to turn data into operational decisions
  • Experience with fleet management systems, reporting tools, and performance analytics
  • Ability to work effectively across Sales, Operations, Service, Logistics, and leadership teams
  • Strong judgment, accountability, and follow-through
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred

What Success Looks Like
  • You'll make a measurable impact by:
  • Increasing fleet utilization and reducing idle equipment
  • Improving return on invested capital
  • Aligning fleet size and mix with customer and market demand
  • Strengthening equipment lifecycle and disposition decisions
  • Improving capital deployment discipline
  • Creating stronger alignment between Fleet, Sales, Operations, Service, and Logistics
