Fleet Mechanic - Light-Duty Cargo Vans
Location: Anaheim, CA
Rate: $40-60hr. DOE
Summary of the Job:
The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing a fleet of light-duty cargo vans (under 14,000 GVW) to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient vehicle operations. This position performs preventive maintenance, mechanical and electrical repairs, and roadside service support while maintaining accurate service records and ensuring compliance with company safety standards. The role requires strong troubleshooting skills, independent decision-making abilities, and a commitment to quality workmanship.
A Day in the Life:
The Fleet Mechanic performs a wide range of preventive maintenance, diagnostic, repair, and fleet support functions for light-duty commercial vehicles.
Vehicle Maintenance & Repair:
  • Perform multi-point vehicle inspections and preventative maintenance services.
  • Complete oil and filter changes, coolant services, cooling system flushes, and transmission fluid services.
  • Diagnose and repair brake systems, including brake inspections, repairs, rotor resurfacing, and brake fluid flushing.
  • Perform tire services including rotations, patching, plugging, and TPMS diagnostics and repairs.
  • Diagnose and repair suspension and steering systems, including shocks, struts, wheel bearings, springs, power steering systems, steering boxes, and steering racks.
  • Perform engine and exhaust system repairs, including replacement of spark plugs, ignition coils, belts, hoses, water pumps, power steering pumps, radiators, alternators, catalytic converters, and mufflers.
  • Diagnose and repair oil leaks, coolant leaks, and other vehicle performance issues.
  • Troubleshoot and repair vehicle electrical systems and climate control systems, including A/C repairs.
  • Repair windows, power windows, door locks, doors, mirrors, and door handles.
  • Install shelving systems, cargo storage racks, GPS devices, and other fleet equipment.

Field Service Support:
  • Respond to roadside assistance requests and off-site repair calls.
  • Perform diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance services in the field as required.
  • Safely operate company vehicles and equipment while supporting fleet operations.
  • Communicate vehicle status, repair recommendations, and service updates to management.

Fleet Administration:
  • Accurately document all inspections, maintenance activities, and repairs performed.
  • Maintain organized and complete fleet maintenance records.
  • Review repair recommendations from third-party vendors.
  • Verify completed outside repairs and validate charges for accuracy and appropriateness.
  • Assist with tracking vehicle maintenance schedules and repair history.
  • Support inventory management of parts, tools, and shop supplies.

General Responsibilities

  • Participate in and lead training for career development, safety, and maintaining required certifications.

Education Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's Degree in Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, Mechanical Technology, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and work experience may be considered.

Years of Experience:
  • 3+ years of experience performing maintenance and repair of light-duty commercial vehicles, cargo vans, or automotive fleets required.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing brake, steering, suspension, electrical, HVAC, engine, and exhaust systems required.
  • Previous experience performing mobile or roadside fleet service repairs preferred.

Systems:
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite products (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Experience utilizing vehicle diagnostic software and scan tools.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), fleet maintenance software, or electronic work order systems preferred.
  • Experience maintaining electronic service and repair documentation preferred.

Licensures/Training Requirements:
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
  • ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications preferred.
  • EPA Section 609 Air Conditioning Certification preferred.
  • OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour training preferred.
  • Ability to maintain required company safety training and certifications.
