Job description

The role of a door attendant (or funeral greeter) is critical to helping grieving families feel supported and ensuring that memorial services run smoothly. You may well be the first contact someone has with Sheenan Funeral Home.  Therefore it is essential that you represent the Sheenan tradition which people have come to depend on and trust:

Professionalism: Maintain a highly respectful demeanor and adhere to strict dress codes (dark suit, white dress shirt and tie).

Compassion & Composure: We ask that you handle emotionally charged situations with empathy and remain calm under pressure.

Attention to Detail: Follow schedules, manage service materials, and anticipate the needs of grieving families.


Responsibilities

  • Greet and Guide: Welcome guests, assist with coats or umbrellas, and direct them to the appropriate parlor, chapel, or reception area. 
  • Manage the Guest Book: Ensure guests sign the register, collect memorial cards, and hand out tribute items like flowers or service programs. 
  • Maintain Order: Enforce basic venue etiquette (e.g., politely reminding guests to silence cell phones or stop flash photography). 
  • Assist the Vulnerable: Help elderly guests or those with mobility issues in and out of vehicles and to their seats.
  • Relay Information: Act as a liaison between arriving guests and the funeral director, or notify the family of late arrivals. 

  • Support Logistics: Assist with parking, organize the line for family viewings, and help arrange the seating of immediate family members.


Qualifications

  • Empathy and tact to respectfully support grieving visitors.
  • Professional appearance requiring conservative, formal business attire like a dark suit.
  • Clear communication to answer questions and direct guests to chapels or parlors.
  • Punctuality and reliability for time-sensitive services.


Physical and Logistical Requirements

  • Valid driver's license to occasionally help with errands, transport, or parking duties.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and occasionally lift or move heavy items like floral arrangements.
  • Flexible schedule often including evenings, weekends, and on-call hours.
