Neurosurgeon – General

Position: Neurosurgeon – General Location: Dothan, Alabama Schedule: Full-Time | Permanent

This opportunity is with a respected, community-based academic health system serving Southeast Alabama, Southwest Georgia, and the Florida Panhandle. Established in 1957, the organization has grown into the region's largest not-for-profit hospital and an extensive primary care and specialty clinic network.

The system includes a large regional medical center, a physician group, a foundation, and affiliations with a college of osteopathic medicine, supporting residency programs in internal medicine, transitional year, and pharmacy. The flagship medical center is a 420-bed regional referral hub serving over 460,000 residents. It is recognized as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, Level II Trauma Center, and Chest Pain Center, and also operates the region's only Level III NICU and inpatient pediatric unit.

With a medical staff of over 200 physicians across nearly every specialty, the organization fosters a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. Ongoing expansion efforts, including significant facility growth, reflect its continued investment in advanced care delivery and innovation.

Position Summary

The facility is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible General Neurosurgeon to join its growing neurosurgery program in Dothan, Alabama.

This role includes a mix of inpatient and outpatient responsibilities, with a focus on evaluating and surgically treating a wide range of neurological conditions. The neurosurgeon will work closely with neurologists, intensivists, trauma teams, and other specialists in a collaborative, high-acuity environment.

The group is open to 2026 Neurosurgery residents/fellows as well as experienced neurosurgeons.

Essential Position Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and surgically treat disorders of the brain, spine, and nervous system
  • Perform a range of neurosurgical procedures including cranial and spinal surgeries
  • Manage traumatic brain injuries, spinal disorders, tumors, and degenerative conditions
  • Provide inpatient consultations, surgical care, and post-operative management
  • Participate in on-call coverage for neurosurgical emergencies
  • Collaborate with neurology, trauma, ICU, and rehabilitation teams for comprehensive care
  • Review and interpret diagnostic imaging including CT, MRI, and other studies
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and clinical best practices
Qualifications

Education

  • M.D. or D.O. from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of a Neurosurgery residency

Licensure & Certification

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neurosurgery
  • Eligible for or holding an active Alabama medical license
  • Current BLS/ACLS required

  • Open to 2026 graduating residents/fellows
  • Experienced neurosurgeons also encouraged to apply
