Job Summary

 

In coordination with peer Assistant Store Manager assists the Store Manager in planning, coordinating and managing the store operations so as to control costs, meet targeted labor, maintain projected profit margins, meet or exceed sales goals and provide a pleasant and safe shopping experience for customers and a safe professional working environment for employees.  Monitors maintaining and replenishing of stock in order to continually meet customers' purchasing needs. 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages the Grocery department, ensuring compliance with WinCo Foods Company Policies, State and Federal Laws and the store's Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Monitors the hour to hour store appearance and conditions to ensure high stands of cleanliness, efficiency and productivity. Demonstrates understanding of store priorities and the ability to anticipate changes.
  • Maintains a safe environment for customers and employees thereby controlling general liability and workers' compensation costs.
  • Shows enthusiasm and a positive attitude toward fellow employees as well as customers. Sets an example of personal integrity, appearance and ethical business practices which provides a standard of conduct for all store personnel. Leads by example.
  • Monitors employee effectiveness and productivity and ensures efficient labor utilization in the grocery department.
  • Evaluates and implements store merchandising plans.
  • Performs store personnel functions as necessary, (such as hiring, training, disciplinary decisions, firing).
  • Performs delegated Store Manager responsibilities in the absence of Store Manager or as assigned.
  • Assists the Store Manager in achieving or exceeding projected labor and productivity goals.
  • Monitors and maintains the quality condition of all products. Ensures that all products are stocked, rotated and faced and that outdated and spoiled products are appropriately discarded.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed.

Requirements

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in the Manager Apprentice Program and/or Minimum of one (1) year as Store Manager/Director or three (3) years as Assistant Store Manager/Director, or equivalent management experience in a retail grocery store.
  • Performing clear written and verbal communication (hearing & speech), providing leadership, exhibiting interpersonal relation skills and maintaining composure with customers and co-workers.
  • Performing supervisory skills (e.g. interviewing, scheduling, hiring, counseling, training, disciplining, etc.)
  • Operating computers with Windows applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. in a work setting.
  • Applying strong analytical and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail in order to effectively monitoring progress and complete assignments, performing all duties with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Utilizing excellent verbal, written and inter-personal communication skills, establishing and maintaining rapport with co-workers, supervisors, buyers, etc.
  • Conducting visual inspections, reading reports, computer printouts, computer screen, etc.
  • Accepting direction from multiple sources and effectively managing time to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Demonstrating initiative and self-direction to perform a variety of simultaneous skills (multi-tasking), fielding and prioritizing different tasks, phone calls and projects with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrating a strong understanding of overall company practices; an in-depth understanding of policies/procedures and the ability to judge/react to customer and employee needs professionally and appropriately.
  • In the states of Montana and Oregon, the minimum age requirement is 18 year old. All other states the minimum age requirement is 21 years of age.

Ability to:

  • Occasionally lift and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to 50 pounds.
  • Efficiently & accurately operate check stand equipment such as scales, scanners, and cash registers.
  • Utilize appropriate computer programs to perform tasks such as employee scheduling, product ordering, etc.
  • Stand, walk and move rapidly for long periods of time.
  • Bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.
  • Perform basic math (add, subtract, divide and multiply), compute weights and measures and calculate profit margins.
  • Perform primary duties efficiently and accurately.
  • Work any scheduled work shifts including evenings, graveyard, overnight, weekends and holidays as scheduled or required.
  • Obtain necessary certification to safely and efficiently operate required equipment including powered industrial forklifts and electric pallet jacks.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally, bend at waist and twist upper body frequently, repetitive use of hands continually.

Additional Requirements:

  • Food Handlers Certification (Per State Laws)

Machines and Equipment Operated:

  • Office machines (computer terminal, copier/scanner, 10-key, fax machine, telephone, etc)
  • Forklift, Electric and manual Pallet Jack, Push Carts and hand trucks.
  • Garbage & cardboard compactors.

Preferred Education, Experience and/or Credentials:

  • Five (5) years or more as Store Manager/Director or Assistant Manager in a retail grocery store.
  • Management experience in a fast paced high volume retail grocery store.
