What is the typical pay rate for a flagger?

The pay rate for a flagger varies depending on location, experience, and employer, but generally ranges from $13 to $22 per hour in the United States. Entry-level flaggers may start at the lower end of the pay scale, while those with more experience or certifications can earn higher wages. Some areas with higher demand or cost of living may offer increased rates. Overtime, nighttime, or weekend shifts can also impact total earnings. Benefits and union representation may further affect compensation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a flagger, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Flagger, you need a solid understanding of traffic control procedures, safety regulations, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with standard hand signaling tools, two-way radios, and certification from organizations like the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) are common requirements.
