Job description

Our Finance group is currently looking to add an Intermediate Accountant to our growing team, based in Edmonton, AB.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, this position works closely with the Finance and Fleet teams on account reconciliations and financial analysis. This role is accounting-focused, with responsibility for month-end close, balance sheet integrity, and operational financial analysis supporting fleet performance and asset decisions.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with managers to identify costs requiring accruals and ensure accruals accurately reflect the timing of expenses.
  • Perform monthly analysis of major fleet cost drivers such as rentals, repairs, fuel, and other major expense categories
  • Prepare amortization schedules for vehicle and equipment prepaid expenses, including initial deferral and monthly drawdown entries
  • Review financing and leasing costs, assess ROI, and flag underperforming assets
  • Generate rental invoices and track billing information
  • Monitor fleet commitments and resolve aged obligations to reduce accrual risks
  • Evaluate monthly work order costs & identify expenses eligible for capitalization
  • Analyze monthly productivity and cost drivers across fleet operations
  • Review work order costs, identify inefficiencies, and prepare reclassification entries
  • Prepare time entry batches as part of transfer pricing or internal fleet equipment billing model
  • Review and analyze GL transactions to ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies
  • Perform monthly balance sheet reviews (including AP, AR, WIP, deferred assets, and prepaid expenses)
  • Prepare and post adjusting entries and maintain accounting integrity controls
  • Undertake special projects and utilize Excel for ad hoc analyses (i.e. assist with acquisition and disposal of equipment; provide scenario analysis for buy, rent, or lease decisions)

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or other related discipline
  • 2-4 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction or Heavy Equipment industry
  • Demonstrated experience dealing with Construction Equipment Fleet accounting
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office suite, with advanced MS Excel skills
  • Experience with an ERP system (JD Edwards is preferred)
  • Ability to perform under pressure, managing multiple tasks, and meeting tight deadlines

Preferred Skills / Qualifications

  • Designated Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), or working towards designation
  • Experience in fleet, asset management or equipment accounting
