Job description

WHO are we looking for?

CAPTRUST is seeking a Senior Trader / Fixed Income Portfolio Manager responsible for managing the firm's fixed income portfolios while supporting equity trading, portfolio implementation, and investment research initiatives. The role is responsible for the management of corporate, municipal, and U.S. Treasury bond portfolios, including ladder construction, portfolio maintenance, security selection, and ongoing monitoring of portfolio risks and opportunities.

Working alongside Portfolio Managers, Traders, and Wealth Advisors, this individual will balance fixed income portfolio management responsibilities with equity trading and portfolio implementation across client accounts. The position requires strong communication skills, sound investment judgment, and the ability to thrive under pressure in a collaborative environment. The internal title for this role is intended to be Financial Advisor | Portfolio Management.


Fixed Income Portfolio Management

  • Manage corporate, municipal, and U.S. Treasury bond portfolios, including construction and maintenance of individual bond ladders, in accordance with client objectives, investment guidelines, and risk parameters.
  • Conduct interest rate, duration, macroeconomic, and portfolio risk analysis to support investment decisions.
  • Oversee the purchase, allocation, and implementation of fixed income trades across client portfolios.
  • Collaborate with Wealth Advisors on fixed income strategy and client portfolio recommendations.

Equity Trading & Portfolio Management

  • Serve as senior resource to the trading team on complex equity trading and portfolio implementation initiatives.
  • Review client accounts relative to target asset allocations and portfolio objectives, identifying rebalancing opportunities and recommending trades based on market conditions, tax considerations, capital gains constraints, and client-specific requirements.
  • Assist in the execution of firm-wide strategy trades.

Investment Research

  • Conduct security analysis and company, industry, economic, and macroeconomic research to support buy, sell, and hold recommendations.
  • Develop and contribute independent research and investment ideas across asset classes, sectors, and market themes as opportunities arise.
  • Contribute to investment committee discussions and portfolio strategy discussions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, mathematics, statistics, business, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in fixed income portfolio management, trading, investment management, wealth management, or a related field.
  • Series 65 or must obtain within 90 days of start date. 

Desired Qualifications/Skills:

  • CFA designation or significant progress toward completion of the CFA Program.
  • Experience managing corporate, municipal, and government bond portfolios.
  • Experience constructing and managing individual bond ladders.
  • Strong understanding of fixed income markets, including yield curve dynamics, duration management, credit analysis, interest rate risk, and portfolio construction.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across investment, advisory, and operations teams.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
  • Experience managing assets for high-net-worth investors, RIAs, family offices, institutional clients, pension plans, or insurance portfolios.
  • Experience with Bloomberg Terminal, Bloomberg PORT, Yield Book, FactSet, Morningstar Direct, or similar analytical platforms.
  • Experience with Python, VBA, or other analytical and automation tools.
  • Familiarity with portfolio management systems, trading platforms, and performance reporting software.
  • Understanding of tax-aware portfolio construction and investment implementation.
  • Experience participating in investment committee, asset allocation, or portfolio strategy decisions.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
